Saturday is free paint day at Ace
Ace Hardware is promoting its nationwide “Free Paint Saturday,” along with a sweepstakes for customers.
The promotional event, at participating Ace Hardware stores across the country, will give customers a free quart of paint when they present a coupon available at Ace’s Facebook page, or its Ace website. The one-day deal is good March 9.
Specifically, the promotion involves a quart of flat enamel interior Clark+Kensington paint+primer in one. Ace says the average availability is about 40 quarters per store.
The sweepstakes allows customers a chance to win one of 10 $1,000 Ace gift cards, plus personalized color consulting from an Ace design expert.
True Value updates its paint offering
Atlanta — New paint in new packaging is in the works at True Value Co., as its interior and exterior paint lines are getting a makeover.
The latest iterations of EasyCare and WeatherAll paint were on display at the True Value Spring Market here, along with a new color display and collateral selling tools. One of the most notable changes on the cans of True Value paint are icons indicating the attributes of the product — mold- and mildew-resistance, extra-rich colors and low VOC.
"People want information right away," said Dawn Garrett, product manager of color collateral and design for True Value. The last time the packaging underwent a similar upgrade was seven years ago, when a simpler design scheme was popular, she said.
Richard Wright, manager of paint marketing and business development, said the offering represents the latest advances in environmentally friendly products, and also adds performance benefits.
The co-op encourages the branches to stock the True Value brands in addition to a national paint brand, he said. Doing so creates relevance in a market where the big boxes — Home Depot, Lowe’s and Menards — have about 62% of the market share for paint, Wright said.

Chicago-based True Value Co. recognized 13 True Value hardware stores, selected from each of the co-op’s retail regions, as winners of its sixth annual “Best Hardware Store in Town” program.

True Value announced the winning retailers during the company’s 2013 Spring & Rental Market held in Atlanta Feb. 23-25.

The Best Hardware Store in Town award recognizes True Value retailers who exemplify successful retailing. Stores are self-nominated, or nominated by a peer or retail manager, and go through a series of selection processes until regional managers narrow down the top candidates.
