Pulte names Whirlpool as national appliance supplier
Bloomfield Hills, Mich.-based home builder Pulte Group announced it has selected Whirlpool as its exclusive appliance supplier effective Oct. 1.
Under the multi-year contract, Whirlpool will supply appliances to PulteGroup’s Pulte Homes, Del Webb and Centex communities in 29 states and the District of Columbia. Terms of the agreement were not released.
“This contract is just the most recent benefit from the company’s strategic purchasing initiative resulting from last year’s merger with Centex,” said Deborah Wahl Meyer, SVP and chief marketing officer for PulteGroup. “In addition to this being a partnership between two Michigan-based companies with proud histories, Whirlpool Corp. offers products that align perfectly with PulteGroup’s unique multi-brand strategy.”
Weyerhaeuser named in antitrust suit
Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser has been named as a defendant in an antitrust lawsuit involving nine other companies accused of fixing prices on containerboard, according to the Puget Sound Business Journal.
The federal lawsuit, which was filed in Chicago Thursday by Kleen Products, alleges the 10 companies named in the suit coordinated to fix, raise, maintain and elevate the prices of containerboard.
Owens Corning to divest Brazil plant
Toledo, Ohio-based Owens Corning announced plans to divest its fiberglass reinforcements plant in Capivari, Brazil.
The company said the divestiture was due to uncertainty in the resolution of ongoing negotiations with the Brazilian competition authority regarding the Capivari facility.
