Kingsport, Tenn.-based Perennial Wood, maker of modified, real wood product added to its distribution network three dealers in Massachusetts and one in Rhode Island. 

The company announced the following new dealers, which are serviced by the distributor Boston Cedar:

  • Humphrey Building Supply, Tiverton, R.I.
  • Timberline Enterprises, Gloucester and Newburyport, Mass.
  • Shrewsbury Lumber, Worcester, Mass.
  • Marine Home Center, Nantucket, Mass.

“We are pleased to expand our offering in the Northeast,” said Jim Flickinger, market development manager for Perennial Wood decking. “These new dealers are experienced at marketing to our brand’s target customers and are well respected for providing top quality building products and reliable service.”

Distributor Snavely Forest Products and Lowe’s also carry Perennial Wood.

In New Jersey, a good idea for a show

Somerset, N.J. — For an LBM show in its third year of existence, the IDEAS Lumber and Building Material Trade Show held here at the Garden State Exhibit Center is doing pretty well. 

There was a waiting list for exhibitors, and some 800 dealers, architects, contractors, installers, builders and tradesmen of any stripe were pre-registered to attend. And that’s not counting the sizeable walk-in traffic for the May 2 event. 

“We have some momentum going now, which is great,” said Keith Coleman, one of the show’s organizers and the president of Hamilton Building Supply. “Just about all exhibitors will be back next year. It’s cost effective and a good return on investment.

IDEAS are initials for Independent Dealers Education Association Series. The show is heavily supported by the Eastern Building Material Dealers Association (EBMDA) and the NJMDA.

The third IDEAS show broke the exhibitor record — 116 companies with about 140 booths.

The success of the young event certainly wasn’t hurt by the fact that the building industry is percolating again after an historic housing downturn.

“There’s a healthy anticipation of what’s to come,” Coleman said. “It really hasn’t come yet in this region. We’ve lagged the rest of the country. But it’s around the bend. You can start to feel it. We’re hopeful.“

Maryland dealer signs partners with BlueTarp Financial

Delta Lumber Do it Center of Whiteford, Md., has entered a partnership with Portland, Maine-based BlueTarp Financial, the trade credit and marketing services provider for the building supply industry.

The 93-year-old Delta Lumber is owned and operated by David H. Galbreath, nephew of Robert Galbreath, who co-founded the business in 1920. The company is now collaborating with BlueTarp on a customized full-service financial program that covers the trade credit needs of its customers, including applications, service and collections. BlueTarp will provide guaranteed cash flow by receiving funds on a pre-determined schedule.

Larry Dawson, general manager of Delta Lumber, said: “Partnering with BlueTarp will allow us to do what we do best — provide a high level service to our customers. As important, it will help us grow and become more profitable.”

At BlueTarp, CEO Scott Simpson says its services help keep things simple for customers.   

“Many independent second-generation dealers are choosing BlueTarp to help them grow the family business because we’ve built a strong reputation in the industry for providing seamless service to their customers, while positioning the dealers for growth,” Simpson said. “Delta recognizes that our approach is to make the transition to BlueTarp smooth so that there is no disruption to customers.”
