People in the News: New president for Parr Lumber

The Parr Lumber Co. board of directors has appointed James Boyer president of the company and its subsidiaries. 

“I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead this remarkable organization during a rapidly evolving and exciting time in our industry,” said Boyer. “The Parr Co., the customers and partners have been such an important part of my life; I am looking forward to the new role and additional opportunities to serve this company and the customers.”

Boyer was previously Parr’s director of yard operations and assumed the role as president of Parr Lumber April 29.

In addition to his responsibilities at The Parr Co., Boyer serves on several community boards and was inducted into the Ronald McDonald House Charities Hall of Fame in 2011.

“His record of philanthropic involvement is well known amongst our valued customers, suppliers and the Portland business community,” said Nancy Cranston, Parr board of directors chair.

The search by Parr Lumber for a new president was launched in late 2012. 

“Jim has an impressive resume, evidencing the knowledge, experience and commitment necessary to lead the positive growth and further success of The Parr Co.,” said David Hamill, current Parr CEO.

Hamill will remain as the CEO through 2013, while assisting in the transition of Boyer and developing business strategies. Hamill will continue to serve The Parr Co. as a member of the board of directors.

The Parr Co. consists of six distinct companies that provide building solutions and services: Parr Lumber Co., Parr Cabinet Design Center, Cascade Wholesale Hardware, NSC, NSCi and Parr Marketing Group.

Woodgrain Millwork and PureColor have announced the development of ready-to-install Prefinished Interior Door and Trim Packages. The packages give builders and remodelers the choice of a custom-stained appearance and the benefits of PureColor’s high-performance green finishing system.

Buying prefinished reduces costs and shortens project times by eliminating the need for applying coatings in the field, according to both companies. 

“Offering the appeal of stained wood without the hassle of finishing onsite, at less than the cost of painting, just makes too much sense. Plus it fits with a long-term trend of delivering products to the jobsite prepared for installation,” said Chris Traylor, PureColor CEO.   

PureColor stains are all zero-VOC, creating an opportunity for builders to meet the growing demand for greener building materials and healthier indoor air environments.

“Pre-stained Interior Door and Trim Packages help builders deliver the features of upscale homes at an affordable price point for homeowners looking for a custom look. We are happy to be the first company to offer this choice on a national scale,” said Kim Allen, Woodgrain Millwork’s general manager. 

The packages are similar to the high-end finished wood seen in custom homes.

The Interior Door and Trim packages will be available through Woodgrain’s extensive nationwide distribution network. Both company’s products are American-made.

PrimeSource promotes Belt Clip nail center

PrimeSource is promoting an in-store display that it calls a belt-clip collated finish center designed to eliminate collated fastener guesswork. 

For the end user, the belt-clip package design brings fasteners right from the shelf to the user’s belt for easy access at the job site. 

The in-store display includes specific, easy-to-read fastener descriptions for its 1,000-count finish nails, brads and staples. The see-through packaging includes full-color fastener photos.  And the display rack is described as “heavy duty.” 

The “Finish Center” allows for category expansion with minimal space and minimal inventory investment, according to the company.
