Fastener companies bolt together

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Southern Fastening Systems and Carlson Systems announced a plan to join forces, creating a new force in fasteners, fastening systems and packaging with 136 branches.

For now, both companies will continue to operate independently, under their own banners, with no immediate plans to change how each business is run. The combination joins Carlson Systems’ 60 branches and Southern Fastening Systems’ 76 branches, operating in 34 states and Mexico.

"Carlson Systems has a 67-year history of providing excellent service to both industrial and construction customers," said Jim Whitley, Southern Fastening Systems president. "This philosophy blends well with Southern’s dedication to the service and quality that [SFS founder] Steve McKinney so strongly believed in."

Whitley and Carlson Systems CEO Todd Carlson will continue in their current leadership roles.

The companies said very little geographic overlap exists between them.

"We are very excited to join these two companies, and deliver increased value to our customers through the talents, products and services of both companies," said Carlson.

The combination allows the new entity to pursue organic growth and acquisition opportunities while continually serving customers and suppliers, according to the announcement, which was made during the 38th Annual STAFDA convention in Charlotte, North Carolina.

The combination is said to create a "new company uniquely positioned to serve the growing construction and industrial manufacturing markets."
