New VP for Sierra Pacific
Anderson, California-based Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) hired Tom Takach as VP of operations for the windows division of Sierra Pacific Industries – a family owned and operated wood products business.
In this new position, Takach will oversee manufacturing and operations for Sierra Pacific’s Red Bluff, California Windows Plant as well as the two newly acquired Hurd and Superseal Window and Door plants in Wisconsin.
Takach joins SP Windows with over 21 years of experience in the window and door industry – much of which was earned with Jeld-Wen, one of the largest producers of windows and doors in the United States.
“We are pleased that Tom has joined Sierra Pacific at a time when we are expanding our sales and manufacturing capabilities” said Kendall Pierson, president of Sierra Pacific Windows. “His background and experience have prepared him for managing the increases in sales and production we expect at our Red Bluff and Hurd facilities,” Pierson added.
Hovnavian enters the Charleston market
Red Bank, New Jersey-based Homebuilder Hovnavian enterprises announced this week that it plans to build a community in Summersville, South Carolina. The gated community, Four Seasons at Lakes of Cane Bay, will contain 800 homes.
"We are extremely excited about the opportunity to build a K. Hovnanian’s Four Seasons community in South Carolina," the company’s board chairman, President and CEO, Ara Hovnanian said. "Given the strong demographic trends, we have talked about expanding our active adult offering into new markets, and we believe we found a great location that will allow us to take advantage of the growth opportunities that are present in Charleston."
The Summersville development will be built around a 250-acre lake and in a location with access to several nature trails. It will also have a fitness center, as well as various spaces for sports like tennis and bocce ball.

Hovnanian’s Four Seasons at Cane Bay,” the project’s developer, Ben Gramling III, said. “As one of the most respected builders in the industry, their commitment to quality and innovation is a welcome addition to our community. Hovnanian’s attention to detail in both design and construction set against the backdrop of our expansive lake system and walking trails will give residents an unsurpassed quality of life."
The template on which the Summersville community is ranked number 19 among the top-selling communities in the U.S. Currently, a welcome center is slated to open for the Four Seasons in the fall.
A sneak peek at DeWalt’s new product lineup
DeWalt is back this season with a bevy of new tools designed to tackle common pain points around the job sitie, including several new products just released this summer.
One of these includes the first-ever pocket knife from DeWalt, a folding model featuring a stainless steel blade that’s designed for on-the-job tasks like removing strapping from lumber. The knife, which features a combination straight and serrated edge, hit shelves this July.
DeWalt’s new Folding Auto-Load Knife saves time on the job by automatically loading a new blade when one dulls — contractors can simply press the blade release button and click the new blade into place. The Auto-Load Knife can store up to three blades at a time.
Also new to the market is a new lineup of flexible hand saws designed for use in tight spaces, including a Double Edge Pull Saw, Flush Cut Backsaw and Single Edge Pull Saw.
Meanwhile, the new Multi-Level Wrokshop provides 22.5 gallons of storage space and 90 pounds of load capacity for heavy-duty transport. The four-level, mobile workstation sits on top of durable 8-inch rubber wheels that can stand up to rough terrain.
