National unemployment rate declines to 8.5%
More jobs than expected were created in December as the national unemployment rate fell to its lowest level since February 2009.
According to the Employment Situation Summary released today by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, nonfarm payroll rose by 200,000 in December, and the unemployment rate declined slightly to 8.5% — down from a revised 8.7% in November.
Analysts and economists had expected about 150,000 new jobs in December.
Construction employment changed little in December. Within the industry, nonresidential specialty trade contractors added 20,000 jobs over the month, mostly offsetting losses over the prior two months.
The unemployment rate has declined by 0.6 percentage point since August 2011.
On shelves at Menards: Green Glue Noiseproofing
Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics said its Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound and Sealant is now available at Menards stores.
Previously, Green Glue products were obtainable only through the Green Glue website or a network of specialty acoustic distributors. Now the products are available for contractors, DIYers and home theater enthusiasts to purchase directly in the building materials section of 232 Menards stores in the Midwest, the company said.
“Our Green Glue Noiseproofing System is a popular choice for homeowners who are looking for the most advanced soundproofing technologies available,” said Cassandra Rhodes, inside sales and service representative, acoustics for Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics.
Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound is a viscoelastic product that significantly dampens noise transmission by converting sound vibration into small amounts of heat. When applied as a constrained layer between two sheets of drywall, plywood or other building substrate, Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound reduces noise transfer from one room to the next by as much as 90%, including low-frequency sounds that are normally resistant to soundproofing, the company said.
Hyde Tools introduces digital catalog
Southbridge, Mass.-based Hyde Tools launched a new interactive digital master catalog. The flipbook-style publication provides a listing of all Hyde products, with product descriptions, photos and selected how-to videos.
The digital catalog features easy navigation using an interactive table of contents and index, and also allows readers to search content by keyword, product code, product name or category.
"Print catalogs become out-of-date almost the moment they are printed,” said Corey Talbot, VP marketing and product development for Hyde Tools. “The beauty of a digital catalog is that it can be continuously updated, which allows us to provide our customers with new products and updated information in a very timely way.”
