Nate Young named VP global innovation at Newell Rubbermaid

Newell Rubbermaid has appointed Nate Young to the newly created role of VP global innovation, which will involve developing the company’s innovation process.

Young will be leaving his role as president of the NewNorth Center for Design in Business, a nonprofit education and business institution. In his new role, he will work closely with the marketing and design/R&D departments to help drive innovation across the business and build a network of inventor, university and corporate innovation communities.

"Nate has already been intimately involved with Newell Rubbermaid, having led a successful series of innovation workshops for our business segments that generated hundreds of promising ideas," said Chuck Jones, Newell Rubbermaid’s chief design and R&D officer. "His familiarity with our Growth Game Plan and unique, diverse and rich experience across the corporate, consulting and education sectors make him the ideal candidate to lead our innovation efforts."

Young has 30 years of experience in boosting the innovative capacities of large organizations. Previously, he also held roles as executive VP and chief academic officer at Art Center College of Design. He is the founder of TWISThink, a Michigan-based product design and development firm.

Trex has a new Northeast distributor

Trex Co. is partnering with Manufacturers Reserve Supply (MRS), a New Jersey-based distributor that will supply dealers in the Northeast region with Trex’s wood-alternative decking and railing.

MRS specializes in the wholesale distribution of decking, siding, roofing and trim, mainly to lumberyards, specialty dealers and home centers in the tri-state region.

Kleer launches photo contest

Kleer Trimboard and Kleer Decking are inviting builders and remodelers to show off their boldest trim and decking projects for a chance to win prizes, along with the respect of their peers.

The 2013 Kleer Lumber Photo Contest is accepting entries through Oct. 31 in four categories: Best in show, Most creative, Best home and Best deck.

Prizes include Black & Decker Stainless Steel Signature Series 6500 Gas Grill, an Olympus XZ-2 digital camera, a Bostitch tool set and workwear from Bob’s Stores.
