Michigan hardware store celebrates 150 years

Holland, Mich., Do it Best retailer Graafschap Hardware recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, according to the Grand Rapids Press.

The original store was opened in 1860 by A. H. Brink in what is now an antique shop. Seven generations later, Harlan Lubbers operates the current location, which the business moved to in 1986.

Simpson completes Dura-Vent sale

Pleasanton, Calif.-based Simpson Manufacturing announced that on Aug. 31 it completed the sale of Simpson Dura-Vent to M&G Dura-Vent, a newly formed, wholly owned, indirect subsidiary of M&G Holding B.V.

The purchase price was $27.7 million.

Simpson designed and manufactured venting systems for gas and wood burning appliances. Netherlands-based M&G Holding manufactures and distributes venting systems for the European market.

New hardware store opens in central Maine

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Staples Hardware of Bingham, Maine, opened its doors Aug. 30, marking the first new business to open in the central Maine town in more than a year, according to The Morning Sentinel.

The new storeowners Mike and Debbie Staples said they hope their business helps to fill a need in their town.
