Lowe’s pledges $500,000 to First Response Team of America
The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation is granting $500,000 to the First Response Team of America, a nonprofit disaster response organization.
"When an entire community loses everything they have in just the blink of an eye, it’s difficult for residents to know where to start," First Response founder Tad Agoglia said. "In those crucial hours, days and weeks after a disaster, Lowe’s Heroes and the First Response Team are there with a unique set of equipment and volunteers. With Lowe’s support, we help communities take their first steps toward recovery and rebuilding."
Together, Lowe’s and First Response are delivering supplies and helping families that have been affected by the recent flooding in Colorado. Lowe’s first partnered with the organization in 2012, during which time the team was busy assisting the needs of Hurricane Sandy victims.
That year, Lowe’s Heroes volunteers assisted with recovery needs related to Tropical Storm Debby, Hurricane Isaac and tornadoes in Lancaster, Pa. and Elmira, N.Y.
"Responding to natural disasters and lending a helping hand in times of great need is a commitment Lowe’s has made for many years," said Marshall Croom, chairman of the Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. "Our partnership with the First Response Team of America has helped make a larger and more impactful difference on the front lines in affected communities immediately after a disaster."
Home Depot points to innovators
Atlanta-based Home Depot announced its 2013 Innovation Award honorees, led by Cree for its LED light bulb.
The annual innovation award recognizes “the most revolutionary new products that provide true benefits to consumers and the companies that exceeded expectations in sales, service and program execution,” the company said.
Mohawk Soft Spring Carpet received first runner-up honors for Soft Spring Carpet, and Plantation Patterns Patio won second runner-up honors for its Create Your Own Collection patio furniture.
"The Home Depot’s goal is to offer customers the most innovative, ground-breaking products that will help them improve their homes while saving them time and money," said Craig Menear, executive vice president, Merchandising for The Home Depot. "Our merchants consistently work with our manufacturing partners to develop pioneering products that differentiate The Home Depot and attract customers."
Cree’s innovation was explained a game changer – at a retail price point that gives consumers a reason to switch to LED lighting. They go just under $10. And according to the retailer, they save 84 % of the energy and last 25 times longer compared to traditional bulbs.
