LG gives away March-Madness-themed prizes at h.h. gregg

Appliance and electronics retailer h.h. gregg is giving away over $50,000 in prizes from LG in honor of its "March into h.h. gregg" event.

“This tournament is one of the biggest events of the year, so we want to give our customers the chance to win the latest technology in televisions and appliances from LG,” said Julie Lyle, chief marketing officer for h.h. gregg. “The online and in-store entries for this giveaway allow customers to enter at the place and time that is most convenient for them, while giving us the chance to interact with our customers in-person and online.”

In promotion of the giveaway, Frisbee pro of YouTube fame Brodie Smith and Butler University mascot Blue III played tug-of-war and shot some hoops for a video campaign spot.

The giveaway includes over 45 prizes involving televisions and appliances, as well as a grand prize package worth over $18,000, which includes a 55" 1080p OLED Smart 3D V, a 3D Smart Blu-ray player, a French door refrigerator, double oven gas range, dishwasher, microwave and a front-load washer/dryer pair.

Customers will have a chance to enter online, through their smartphones, on Facebook and in the store through April 7. Winners will be selected instantly and weekly, and one grand prize winner will be picked out on April 8.

Universal Forest Products buys crate manufacturer

A subsidiary of Grand Rapids, Mich.-based Universal Forest Products acquired Container Systems, a manufacturer of crates and containers for industrial applications and the moving-and-storage industry, located in Franklinton, N.C. 

CSI produces a full line of moving and storage crates, specialized crates for niche markets and integrated packaging solutions, and is a wholesale cut-to-size panel and lumber supplier to the area’s industrial customers. Sales in 2013 were about $3 million. 

The acquisition provides a presence in the Eastern United States for Universal’s Industrial Wood Industries (IWI), which supplies bulk shipping and storage bins, moving boxes, fruit and nut bins, and other specialized wood products to industrial and agricultural customers, primarily in the West. IWI shares many customers with CSI. With this move, IWI will have a presence in the East and an opportunity serve new clients and to enhance service to existing clients with locations nationwide, the company said.

“This acquisition is a perfect complement to IWI’s business, and allows that affiliate to bring its strong capabilities and solutions to the Eastern Seaboard,” said UFP CEO Matthew J. Missad.

UFP’s industrial business is a primary focus for growth opportunities, he added.

“Container Systems is known as a quality panel products manufacturing company in its market and, with the resources and strengths of our IWI operations, we look forward to serving new customers in the East with the products and service they expect from a Universal company.” 

CSI joint-owner Scott Parsons will remain as plant manager of the Franklinton operations, and employees Lyle Davis and James Boswell will serve as operations manager and account manager, respectively. “This is an exciting new chapter for the people and customers of CSI, and we’re proud to now be a part of a respected international manufacturer and supplier,” Parsons said. 

The transaction closed on March 14.

PGT hires a new marketing director

PGT Industries, a North Venice, Fla.-based supplier of residential impact-resistant windows and doors, has appointed Danielle Mikesell as its newest director of marketing.

In her new role, she will be responsible for the company’s marketing strategies related to its window and door brands.

Mikesell has a strong background in marketing and sales within the building and consumer goods industries. In her most recent role, she served as marketing director at Masco Cabinetry, where she oversaw all marketing initiatives. 

"Danielle’s diverse skill set enables her to bring a strategic vision and focus to PGT," said Todd Antonelli, VP sales and marketing. "She is results-oriented and highly collaborative, which makes her a strong cultural fit. The PGT brand is established in our market and Danielle’s expertise will allow us to capitalize on that strength and help us to grow."
