Kohler workers pass new contract

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Union members at the Sheboygan, Wis., Kohler plant voted in favor of the company’s proposed labor contract Sunday after four months of negotiations, according to WBAY.com

According to the article, 62% of UAW Local 833 members voted to pass the contract, which included a five-year wage freeze, a flexible work force, a two-tier wage structure and a $1,000 signing bonus.

Union officials were disappointed with the vote. Earlier in the negotiations, members had voted in favor of a strike, and last week union members staged an informational picket as a show of solidarity with the negotiation committee.

Menards looks at self-storage conversion

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Menards is attempting to convert one of its old stores in Sheboygan, Wis., into a self-storage facility, according to an article in the Sheboygan Press.

The home improvement retailer submitted an application to city officials seeking a conditional use permit to turn a vacant store into a 362-unit Menards Self Storage center, according to the newspaper. The company vacated the property three years ago after it built a 214,000-sq.-ft. store in Sheboygan, almost double the size of the old store. Attempts to then sell the vacated store have been unsuccessful.

According to the permit application, Menards has already converted at least one former store into a storage facility, in Eau Claire, Wis., where the retailer is headquartered.
