Kodiak acquires Factory Builder Stores
Denver-based Kodiak Building Partners has agreed to purchase the assets of Factory Builder Stores, a large independent specialty distributor of appliances and cabinets based in Houston.
"We are very excited about having Factory Builder Stores join our team," said Kodiak chairman Paul Hylbert. "Doug Rapier and his management group have built a fine organization serving custom home builders, remodeling contractors and consumers in the major markets in Texas. In addition to strengthening our presence in greater Houston, the company and its strong people offer us a platform for expanding throughout Texas."
Doug Rapier, CEO of Factory Building Stores, added that the acquisition will help boost the company’s expansion in Texas.
Factory Builder Stores serves builders statewide with locations in Austin, San Antonio, College Station, Corpus Christi, the DFW Market and Houston.
The transaction is expected to close by the end of April.
Kodiak Building Partners was founded in Denver in 2011 to invest in building products distributors. The firm’s current portfolio of companies includes Barton Supply, a steel fabricator and distributor with three locations in Colorado; Gulf & Basco, a window, cabinet and appliance distributor serving greater Houston; Jones-Heartz Drywall Supply, a gypsum and accessories distributor also serving the Colorado market; and New England Building Supply, a building products distributor serving greater Boston.
Briggs & Stratton gets a Shorty Industry Award
Representing the marketing chops of the home improvement industry, Briggs & Stratton Corporation earned high marks for its Mower Mouth social media contest at this year’s Shorty Industry Awards on April 7 in New York City.
The contest earned Briggs & Stratton the spot for Best Facebook Contest, which it shared with ESPN’s SportsCenter after beating a third finalist, ABC Family.
The Mower Mouth contest prompted customers to submit videos of themselves making lawn mower sounds. Entries included household pets, props and a parody of the "What Would the Fox Say?" music video. The ultimate aim? Demonstrating that many find their lawn mowers to be too noisy and introducing customers to the new QPT engine, which cuts mower noise by 65%.
"The Mower Mouth contest was a great way for us to engage with consumers in a unique and fun way," said Carissa Gingras, director of marketing for Briggs & Stratton. "We loved showcasing the creativity of the entries while promoting our engines across our social media channels."
The Shorty Industry Awards aim to recognize outstanding social media campaigns, websites, games and applications.
Wagner rolls out powered paint roller
Wagner SprayTech is introducing the new Smart SideKick powered roller, which feeds paint to the roller directly from the paint container (ergo, no messy paint trays).
SideKick’s biggest claim to fame, however, is its ability to speed up painting jobs
"Homeowners are looking to complete their painting projects faster," said Eric Julstrom, Wagner product manager. "So, we designed the Sidekick powered roller to help them paint large or multi-room projects fast and reclaim time they would have spent finishing the job with traditional rollers and brushes. In tests comparing the SideKick with a manual roller on similar projects, it was two times faster."
By eliminating the tray, SideKick also eliminates the need to continually dip the roller in the tray. The direct feed system is powered by a 120-volt motor and peristaltic pump, and its "Click-Attach Arm" attaches to paint containers ranging from 1 to 5 gallons in size.
Additionally, a threaded extension pole can be attached to the SideKick’s handle to reach ceilings and high walls.
