KB Home opens new Denver community
KB Home has announced its plans to expand further into the Denver market with the opening of its latest community, Pinery West.
“Each KB home at Pinery West can be personalized to reflect individual homebuyer preferences with our unique KB homebuying process that gives our buyers many ways to tailor their home to fit their lifestyle and budget,” said Matt Mandino, president of KB Home’s Colorado division. “Also, the yards at Pinery West are designed to be low maintenance, allowing our homeowners to spend more time pursuing an active lifestyle.”
The gated community will feature 86 new Craftsman homes with one- and two-story floor plans ranging in size from 1,747 to 3,044 sq. ft., including up to six bedrooms and four-and-a-half baths. The homes will be priced starting in the $400,000s.
Lowe’s takes America’s pulse on smart home
Lowe’s took a deeper look at the motivations and desires that shape America’s attitude toward smart home technology, many of which suggest that simplicity – and not so much the fancy bells and whistles — will save the day.
The Lowe’s 2014 Smart Home Survey questioned more than 2,000 U.S. adults, conducted online in July by Harris Poll.
Among the most significant findings was that most — 52% — say having a smart home is at least somewhat important. However, more than 70% of smart phone users would ideally like to be able to simply control their home functions without getting out of bed, despite the hold Rosie the Robot had on their imaginations.
"In general, Americans feel positively toward products that will make their homes safer, more energy efficient and easier to manage. It is added evidence that the smart home and Internet of Things are here to stay," said Kevin Meagher, Lowe’s VP and general manager, Smart Home. "People want DIY solutions that are simple and affordable, and that’s exactly what we provide with Iris. Lowe’s makes the home smarter by offering an easy, single user interface where consumers can control everything in and around their home with the brands they already know and trust."
When it comes to purchasing decisions, 56% cited cost as the number one deciding factor, followed by ease of use (13%) and security (11%).
When it came to actual functions, security won out as being the most beneficial application (62%). Overall convenience came in third (35%),, with flood, fire and disaster protection in fourth (29%).
Additionally, 50% preferred do-it-yourself solutions without a monthly fee — twice as many as those who say they’d prefer a professionally monitored system with a service fee (21%).
Schumacher Homes opens new design studio
Canton, Ohio-based Schumacher Homes has opened a new Model Home and Design Studio in Shreverport, Louisiana, which will showcase a variety of options for homeowners in the planning stages of their new homes.
"Up until now we have displayed the quality and unique features of our homes through the use of one-stop-shopping Design Centers in the Shreveport market," said Paul Schumacher, president and founder of Schumacher Homes. "We just felt it was important to give our customers something they could ‘touch and feel’ to really illustrate the quality that goes into every Schumacher home. This new location will also include a unique and expansive Design Studio that will provide a shopping experience that is unmatched in our industry."
In addition to the design studio, which aims to give buyers a sense of their design choices, the model home will display a "Heritage F" aesthetic, named in honor of Paul’s parents Mary and John Schumacher on their 60th anniversary.
Its one-story construction features a split bedroom dual master suite (with a separate kitchen and laundry room in the second suite), open floor plan and two full bathrooms. It’s also accented with brick details, custom ceiling beams and high ceilings in the kitchen and great room.
