KB Home names senior VP marketing
Los Angeles-based KB Home has named Tom Silk senior VP marketing and communications. Silk will be responsible for the home builder’s marketing, advertising, communications and social media outreach across its U.S. home-building operations.
"We are pleased that Tom has joined KB Home as a member of our executive team," said Jeffrey Mezger, president and CEO of KB Home. "I believe having someone of Tom’s caliber and expertise in this important role will help us to connect with consumers on a new level."
Most recently, Silk was VP marketing for hydration brands at PepsiCo Beverages Americas. Previously, he led global marketing efforts for the Guitar Hero and Call of Duty franchises at Activision-Blizzard. He also served as a brand marketer at The Clorox Co., and began his career as an officer in the U.S. Navy.
Allied Building Products makes space for solar
Allied Building Products, one of the industry’s leading distributors of exterior building products, is adding solar panels and accessories to its lineup in a special pro-oriented display. Solar products will have a dedicated area within Allied’s Contractor Tool Center, which the company opened on May 12 at its East Rutherford, N.J., headquarters.
The 7,000-sq.-ft. facility includes power tools, roofing products, flashings, sealants, fasteners, safety equipment and other products regularly used by contractors. The solar products area includes solar panel displays, string inverters, combiner boxes, Quickmount PV products, solar fasteners and other accessories.
Allied Building Products sells residential and commercial roofing, siding, windows, drywall, acoustical and metal framing in 29 states. Annual revenues are approximately 1.7 billion. The company is a division of Oldcastle Inc., the North American holding company for CRH plc.
BMC expands its reach in greater Houston
Just one day after announcing the opening of a distribution center in Denver, BMC is at it again — this time with a new lumberyard in Houston.
BMC announced the opening of the Houston yard today, describing it as a boost to its Greater Houston capacity, which now extends to a 100-mile delivery radius.
“Houston, and the state of Texas, continue to lead the nation in demand for lumber, and we will continue to invest resources in the region that benefit our customers and deliver value,” said Peter Alexander, CEO of BMC. “This lumberyard is one example where our customers will reap the rewards of that investment as they realize increased service level, more capacity in the Houston area, quick response time and greater depth of inventory."
The new lumberyard, located at 7355 West Rd., will work with BMC’s Houston millwork operations — a 250,000-sq.-ft. facility and a 100,000-sq.-ft. facility that provide millwork distribution, manufacturing and custom millwork production.
Products carried at the lumberyard include: I-Joists and engineered wood products, dimensional framing lumber, panel products and job site construction supplies. Additionally, this facility can provide pre-manufactured roof trusses and custom-built timber trusses.
Houston market LBM manager Kyle Williams, an industry veteran with 29 years of experience all in Texas, will oversee the lumberyard.
