Interfor to close B.C. mill for good

BY HBSDEALER Staff

International Forest Products (Interfor) said it will permanently shut down its Queensboro sawmill in New Westminster, British Columbia. The facility had shut down indefinitely in June 2007.

Interfor said the site will be sold and equipment at the mill, which received a $25 million overhaul in 2005, will be redeployed to other Interfor sites or sold.

The decision to close the facility is accompanied by a $21 million after-tax charge, the company said.

In addition to British Columbia, Interfor has operations in Washington and Oregon.
