The Futures Company looks ahead at HIRI event
J. Walker Smith, chairman of The Futures Group, is among the speakers at the Home Improvement Research Institute’s upcoming conference.
His presentation is titled: "A Future Unfolding: Understanding Tomorrow’s Consumer Today."
Consumers are looking to move beyond the stagnation of a slow recovery, but they will be doing so with a different view.
As old aspirations and rules of thumb feel increasingly irrelevant, consumers have moved from Looking Up, seeking inspiration from those with more, to Looking Down, seeking a way to avoid winding up like those with less. Now and in the future, consumers will approach their lifestyles and the marketplace with a mind-set of Slimming Down, from their spending habits and ownership priorities to their intake of information and their circles of connection.
This year’s HIRI conference is titled "Changing Home Improvement Attitudes & Behaviors" and will be held on Oct. 16 in Chicago.
The Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI) is a membership-based, independent, nonprofit organization of manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers and allied organizations in the home improvement industry. It is the leader in independent research on the industry. The membership of HIRI currently represents more than 70 of the leading firms in the industry.
Plastics Building Innovations set for inaugural session this November
This November, industry professionals will be gathering in Atlanta to convene over plastics growth and trends in the residential building market. The inaugural session of Plastics Building Innovations will feature nearly 20 speakers who will lead informational sessions regarding the emergence of plastics technology in the rebounding economy.
According to a company statement, the building and construction industry is already the second-largest end market for plastics consumption, and the presence of plastics is likely to increase in the near future.
"Many innovative polymer materials and applications are helping to drive the trend toward cost-effective, green-building techniques that will appeal to tomorrow’s home owners,” said Robert Grace, editorial and conference director and associate publisher with Plastics News. “We’re excited, with this inaugural conference, to be bringing together a variety of key players in the residential building supply chain to push that conversation forward."
Speakers include keynote presenter Joseph Lstiburek, D’Lane Wisner, Patrick Culpepper and Ingrid Mattsson and companies, such as Eastman Chemical Co. and Gros Executive Recruiters.
