BY Ken Clark

The Home Depot Center, home of the Los Angeles Galaxy and Chivas USA of Major League Soccer, will get a new name at the end of the year.

Published reports indicate the Atlanta-based retailer will allow its 10-year, $70 million stadium-naming-rights deal to expire at the end of the year.

In addition to hosting soccer matches, the 125-acre Home Depot center located about 10 miles south of Los Angeles includes facilities for track and field, baseball, basketball tennis and other sports.

Werner brings attic ladder to Home Depot

BY Ken Clark

Greenville, Pa.-based Werner Co. is bringing its aluminum Energy Seal Attic Ladder to Home Depot on an exclusive basis.

The new product features the Owens Corning R-5 PINK insulation, within a 1-in. thick door structure. The aluminum attic ladder also features weather stripping around the frame that eliminates 60% of air leakage by creating a tight seal when the door is closed, according to the manufacturer.

“In our research, homeowners have communicated the importance of energy efficiency and their desire to find easy ways to minimize wasted energy and identify cost savings,” said Chris Filardi, VP marketing at Werner Co. “Air leakage through attic openings is a common issue; this is why we developed the Energy Seal Attic Ladder with integrated insulation and weather stripping, to help seal in warm or cool air and provide short- and long-term benefits for homeowners.”

It is now available online and at 428 Home Depot stores across the country. The pricing for the attic ladder is $199.

The attic in modern homes
The attic in modern homes serves to insulate the living space below, by keeping a large mass of air in place, below the roof. This large space can also be utilized for storage; the trick is gaining access to it. Fortunately, there are aluminum attic ladders that can be installed by most do-it-yourself homeowners, and a helper, in a few hours. Attic Stairs

Central Garden & Pet acquires mosquito control business

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Walnut Creek, Calif.-based Central Garden & Pet Co. (CG&P) has purchased the remaining majority interest in New York-based FourStar Microbial Products.

The move is expected to complement CG&P’s mosquito control business.

FourStar microbial products are derived from naturally occurring soil bacteria and stop juvenile mosquitoes from emerging into flying and breeding adult flying insects that can bite and spread disease. The product’s residual lasts from seven to 180 days and is formulated into granules and briquets for ease of application into various mosquito breeding sites.

“Our Altosid product line set the standard for controlling juvenile mosquitoes and created the insect growth regulator category,” said Frank Jusich, SVP professional brands for CG&P. “With the addition three years ago of Zenivex products to stop adult mosquitoes and the current addition of the B2E FourStar microbials, Central will have a full range of products to help mosquito control professionals protect the public from West Nile virus, Eastern Equine Encephalitis, and other mosquito-borne diseases.”

CG&P is a marketer and producer of products for the lawn and garden and pet supplies markets.
