Home channel sales outpace retail in April

U.S. retail and food services sales for April increased slightly, but home channel sales increased more.

Building material and garden equipment and supplies dealers, the NAICS 444 category that includes lumberyards, home centers and hardware stores, showed sales of $25.5 billion, according to the government data. That’s up 1.5% from the previous month, and up 4.1% from the same month a year ago.

That compares to increases of 0.1% and 3.7%, respectively, for all U.S. retail and food services sales.

The advance estimates of U.S. retail and food services sales for April, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $419.0 billion.

Nonstore retailers were up 15.4% from April 2012 and auto and other motor vehicle dealers were up 8.8% from last year.

Masco Home Services passes efficiency milestone

Masco Home Services and its affiliated company Energy Sense, part of the Masco Contractor Services family of companies, recently surpassed a milestone of verifying more than 200,000 Energy Star compliant homes combined.

"These numbers would not have been possible without the commitment of our builder customers and the support of the Environmental Protection Agency.”

Masco Home Services offers a national, turnkey home performance program to residential builders through the Environments For Living and Environments For Living Certified Green programs. In addition, the company offers a range of energy efficiency services including pre-construction plan review, various inspection services, diagnostic testing, training and a software solution to manage it all.
