HD promotes Menear, Holifield

The Home Depot has named Craig Menear president, U.S. retail, and Mark Holifield EVP supply chain and product development.

"Craig is a world-class retailer and has done a terrific job in recent years leading some of the most important and successful initiatives in our company," said Frank Blake, chairman and CEO. "And Mark has successfully led one of the most extensive supply chain transformations in retail history. Both are very deserving of their new leadership roles, and I look forward to their continuing contributions to our business."

Menear, who was previously EVP merchandising at Home Depot, will maintain the bulk of his former responsibilities involving merchandising, supply chain, global sourcing, vendor management, marketing and online sales, with the additional responsibility for all U.S. store operations. Marvin Ellison, EVP U.S. stores, will report directly to Menear.

Meanwhile, Holifield (who was previously SVP supply chain), will oversee sourcing and proprietary brands and continue reporting to Menear.

Menear has been with Home Depot since 1997, joining as a merchandising manager in the Southwest Division. Prior to his role with HD, Menear operated an independent retail business and held various merchandising roles at IKEA, Builders Emporium, Grace Home Centers, Montgomery Ward and more.

Holifield has over 30 years of experience in supply chain management. He joined Home Depot in 2006 and created measurable results in inventory turns and in-stock levels since. Previously, he worked for Office Depot, Frito-Lay and H.E. Butt Grocery.

Lowe’s sees potential for pros

Sales to pros are growing faster than sales to consumers at Lowe’s, which recently reported a fourth quarter sales gain of 5.6%.

According to Chief Customer Officer Greg Bridgeford, the Mooresville, N.C.-based retail giant sees an opportunity to capitalize on the pro market.

In addition to enhancing the company’s product and service offering, Lowe’s will also combine its key pro categories under the leadership of a focused general merchandise manager.

“While pros shop across the store, the penetration of sales to pro customers is highest within the traditional building and maintenance categories, including lumber and building materials, millwork, rough plumbing, electrical and tools and hardware,” Bridgeford said during the company’s fourth quarter earnings call. “So we grouped those categories into the leadership of a general merchandise manager who is focused on ensuring we have the types of products and brands that pros demand.”

Bridgeford said Lowe’s will re-launch LowesForPros.com in the second quarter. It will be a site for pros to buy online from Lowe’s, also allowing them to access contract pricing, develop requisition list and view purchase history.

Diaz joins Versatex in New England

Versatex Trimboard hired Josh Diaz as a regional market development specialist out of New Britain, Conn.

Assigned to the southern New England region, Josh Diaz will work with Versatex regional sales manager Bill Naumann. After almost a dozen years in supply chain and inventory management,. Diaz brings with him outstanding expertise in the industry and in customer service, Naumann said. 

Versatex Trimboard products are manufactured by Wolfpac Technologies of Pittsburgh.
