HBSDealer Stock Watch: Stocks get back on track
After a day of declines, the majority of stocks tracked by HBSDealer hit the accelerator. SHLD continued its volatile ways, jumping 6.8%. Other gainers included, LL, up 3.0%; TTC, up 2.3% and BCC, up 2.4%.
Readers respond to passage of tax bill
There’s been no shortage of headlines on the United States tax code and tax reform. And as the Senate and House versions of tax bills seek reconciliation, there’s no reason to believe the stories will fade from view.
In the debate over the wisdom of the various tax bills, the readers of HBSDealer appear to lean more optimistic than pessimistic, based on the results of a recent poll question. HBSDealer asked: “What’s your take on tax reform, now that the Senate passed its version of a tax bill?”
Here are the responses:
• 44%, Optimistic. Tax cuts are good.
• 28%. Pessimistic. Bad news for national debt and home owner incentives.
• 28%, Difficult to say for sure what’s included in a nearly 500-page bill.

A lifetime achievement for Bob Wagner
The North American Association of Floor Covering Distributors recognized Bob Wagner of Fishman Flooring Solutions in Baltimore, Md., as the recipient of the 2017 NAFCD Lifetime Achievement Award. The award recognizes an individual who has shown exceptional leadership and made outstanding contributions that have led to expanding the vision of the floor covering distribution channel.
Wagner currently serves as president and CEO of Fishman Flooring Solutions.
His experience in the flooring installation business dates back to the mid-1970s, when he was trained as a floor covering installer while in high school and worked in his family’s flooring installation supply business. According to the association, Wagner is actively involved in industry affairs and is a past president of NAFCD.
“Bob Wagner has given a significant amount of time and energy to not only NAFCD over the years but other industry organizations all in an effort to enhance the industry for all,” said NAFCD Executive VP Kevin Gammonley. “He is an effective and passionate voice in the promotion of the value of the wholesale distributor in the channel. He has been a committed volunteer leader who always has the industry’s best interest at heart.”
In his current capacity, Bob oversees more than 210 employees working in 35 locations who, since May 2012, own 100% of their company.
