Handy Hardware Wholesale names new CFO

BY HBSDEALER Staff

Houston-based Handy Hardware Wholesale named former Moore-Handley executive Thomas J. Schifanella Jr. as chief financial officer.

“We are very pleased to welcome Tommy aboard,” said Mickey Schulte, VP merchandising for Handy Hardware. “With his knowledge of the hardware industry our members will have a person who understands their business from day one. His knowledge of the customer base in the Southeast will also help speed our growth as we open our new distribution center in Meridian, Miss., the first week of December.”

Schifanella spent six years as CFO of Alabama-based hardlines distributor Moore-Handley and more recently served as controller of Birmingham, Ala.-based Insight Card Services.

Moore-Handley filed for bankruptcy protection in July 2009, and was later acquired by Knoxville, Tenn.-based distributor House-Hasson.

Schifanella takes the post at Handy Hardware vacated by Lynn Bradley.

True Value announces Design SOS winner

BY HBSDEALER Staff

A Gettysburg, Pa., resident will be receiving a $2,500 bathroom makeover, thanks to a True Value promotion.

The company recently awarded the grand prize of its “Design SOS: Friend to the Rescue” contest to a contestant identified as “Marian P.,” after her design-challenged “1940s Bathroom” received the most votes on StartRightStartHere.com.

“I’m ready to get to work on this bathroom with the help of True Value,” said Marian in her SOS video.

Marian will receive not only the cash to use at her local True Value Hardware store, but an in-person consultation with a True Value expert to get her bathroom made over.

“The pink plastic tiles are beginning to erode, the original “builder-grade” fixtures are beyond outdated, and the “window to nowhere” makes her bathroom a true decorating disaster,” the company said in a release.
