EGO brand partners with Depot
Home Depot’s fifth annual Spring Black Friday promotional event is underway and one of the “Wow,” items being featured is an outdoor product tool system with the industry’s most powerful rechargeable battery.
Home Depot said it has an exclusive partnership with the EGO brand to offer a line of outdoor equipment powered by a 56-volt lithium-ion battery that is said to be the industry’s most powerful. In addition to offering four EGO brand products (a lawn mower, blower, hedge trimmer and string trimmer) powered by the interchangeable battery, the retailer said it is expanding its longtime exclusive relationship with Ryobi to offer the Ryobi ONE+ product line with more than 50 tools that are compatible with one battery.
"This spring and every season, The Home Depot aims to bring the latest tools to market to make the to-do list easier and simpler," said Dana Hudson, one of the retailer’s senior merchants. "Our continued partnership with Ryobi and our new partnership with EGO are great examples of bringing the best and latest technology to our customers."
The EGO and Ryobi products both operate with lithium-ion batteries that are lighter, run longer and can be recharged more quickly that earlier cordless tools, which ran on nickel cadmium, or NiCad, battery systems.

Hipp Modern Builders Supply of Mountain View, Ark., a fourth-generation family business in the Ozark foothills, has been named the 2014 Tools of the Trade Award winner by HCN.
The Tools of the Trade Award annually recognizes a small business that captures the spirit of independent retailing and makes the most of technology, marketing and human resources. Past honorees include McDaniel’s Do it Best, Builders, and Price Hardware True Value.
Hipp operates locations in Mountain View and nearby Batesville, serving both DIYers and professional builders.
“We’ve been fortunate to build a loyal following in our markets, and our team works hard to keep that loyalty,” said Gentry Hipp, great-grandson of the company founder. “We also try very hard to stay ahead of the trends.”
The company has latched onto a successful social media strategy to boost its brand — its Facebook followers (3,200) surpasses the population of Mountain View (2,700). And the company has embraced e-commerce, eBay and Do it Best’s ship-to-store service to adapt to shifting trends in retail.
Through its membership and participation in Do it Best and ENAP, Hipp also uses communication and networking as tools for success, generating best practices from industry roundtables.

Also honored will be Stine Home & Yard, of Sulphur, La., this year’s Golden Hammer Retailer of the Year.
