D.C.-area hardware store reopens its doors
Washington, D.C.-based Logan Hardware, a member of the nine-store Ace Chain "A Few Cool Hardware Stores," has officially reopened the doors at its new location after months of construction.
Effective Oct. 9, the store was open to customers, though the store is still in the process of completing certain renovations.
The new store features an additional 2,000 sq. ft. of retail space, a new outdoor garden center, a party supplies department, and more products in the pet supplies, housewares, lawn and garden, and live goods aisles. It also has touches of historical detail.
“We converted the old carriage house into our lawn and garden department, and we’ve peeled back some of the plaster to expose the original brick walls," said owner Gina Schaefer. "We are glad we were able to preserve the building and restore it to its original charm."
Logan Hardware staff has been busy inside the store since the last week of September to assist with the move-in process, which includes the stocking of over 20,000 products.
“We are so lucky to have such great support from our customers and we know they are just as anxious as us to see the new store,” said manager Joe Tartaglione. “We’re ready to open, but we apologize in advance for the dust as we finish unpacking.”
The new store is located at 1734 14th St. NW in Washington, D.C.
A bright spot in the grill aisle at True Value
Denver — Though many of the usual suspects were on-hand at the 2014 True Value Fall Reunion, more than one of the show floor’s sizzling merchandise developments took place among the grills.
Relatively new to the hardware scene is Traeger Grills, a line of sleek wood pellet grills that now feature a Digital Pro Controller with dual meat probes, a removable grill shelf and EZ-Fold legs for added portability.
The grills can also double as convection ovens, opening the door to all kinds of possibilities that include hickory-smoked chocolate chip cookies.
Another relatively new face was iGrill Mini, a Bluetooth-enabled smart cooking thermometer used by home cooks and competitive grillers alike.
iGrill connects to a smartphone app that notifies the user when the meat reaches the desired internal temperature. At a range of 150 feet, it allows greater flexibility to cooks than many competitors’ products.
iGrill was also one of the first products to appear on the market that’s compatible with HomeKit, Apple’s up-and-coming smart home platform.
Do it Best expands INCOM
Do it Best Corp. says it is bringing more resources to its INCOM Distributor Supply division.
The Fort Wayne, Indiana-based co-op is expanding the team and dedicating additional resources to support INCOM Distributor Supply. The move reflects the business’ sustained growth and strategic importance, according to the co-op.
Over the last three years, Tom Barfell has led the INCOM and International Sales departments, helping drive significant growth in both areas. That rapid growth led to the development of a separate INCOM team. Barfell will continue to lead the International Sales team.
Do it Best Corp. named co-op veteran Jared Hufford as the new manager of InCom. Hufford has served in several key business development roles in his 10-plus years with Do it Best Corp., most recently as a territory manager on the Sales and Business Development team. Since 2008, he has consulted with some of the co-op’s largest Midwest members to help them grow their businesses.
“With the tremendous success Tom and his team have helped generate, it’s clearly evident that INCOM is an area with even more opportunity for member growth and expansion,” said Bob Taylor, president and CEO of Do it Best Corp. “Our number one goal is to help our members grow and we believe the additional focus and resources here will help us take full advantage of the opportunities for both International and INCOM.”
Hufford will oversee a team of commercial and industrial specialists specifically focused on this industry – a business segment that has consistently demonstrated strong growth over the past three-plus years. The dedicated INCOM team will also be better positioned to more fully leverage growth opportunities in areas like e-tailing, facilities management and retail integration.
