China show expects to attract 35,000
More than 35,000 trade visitors from 85 countries are expected to fill out the China International Hardware Show 2011 in Shanghai. Some 2,400 exhibitors from around 20 countries and regions are also expected.
The Sept. 21 to 23 event, organized by Koelnmesse and the China National Hardware Association, is described as Asia’s leading trade fair for tools, DIY and building hardware, security systems and locks.
New this year, the show will present outstanding new products — selected by a panel of industry judges — in a 300-sq.-meter innovative Products Zone. "This special feature of high-quality hardware products aims to help buyers improve their sourcing efficiency in screening suitable manufacturers," CIHS said in a press release.
CIHS also said that it received an endorsement from the European DIY Retail Association (EDRA), which represents 90 major home improvement retailers in 50 countries. "This endorsement signifies a major leap in recognition by a prominent worldwide industry body and is expected to inject fresh interest from more overseas visitors," according to the show announcement.

At Sears, a new Kenmore Elite fridge
Kenmore’s new Elite Signature Trio refrigerator model boasts extra capacity, smart features and a fresh design that consumers have come to expect from kitchen appliances, the company said.
"Our customer insights speak to the importance of providing greater refrigeration capacity to our customers, meaning less anxiety about storage for family and guests," said Scott Freidheim, executive VP, Sears Holdings and president, Kenmore, Craftsman and DieHard. "As a brand that’s in the homes of more than 100 million Americans, we know providing the right solutions ultimately helps consumers get more in so many ways."
The Kenmore Elite Signature Trio delivers 31 cubic ft. of jumbo capacity, an enhanced size within the market thanks to space-saving features, including a Slim In-Door Icemaker, recessed LED lighting on the top and sides, and a compact water filter set back within the ceiling. These three innovations deliver more usable space, including improved access to the top shelf, as well as more storage with additional door bins, according to Kenmore.
The refrigerator retails for $3,199 in white and black and $3,359 in stainless steel.
Report: Sears narrows its search for possible move
Hoffman Estates, Ill.-based Sears Holdings Corp. is no longer considering Ohio for a possible headquarters move, according to a report from Crain’s Chicago Business.
Citing sources close to the discussions, Crain’s reported that Boston and Washington, D.C., are candidates for a relocation. But remaining in Hoffman Estates is also an option, especially if state and local governments grant incentives.
Sears moved its headquarters to Hoffman Estates from Chicago in the early 1990s.
