Carter Lumber promotes Donley
Kent, Ohio-based Carter Lumber promoted Jeff Donley to the post of president and chief operating officer.
The company also promoted Jeff Seder and Kip Gleckler.
Donley has been with Carter Lumber since 1995 and has served in a variety of management positions, including risk manager, chief financial officer and most recently as senior VP and chief operating officer.
He is responsible for all operations of the Carter-Jones Family of Companies, including the development and execution of corporate strategy. In his new role, he will continue to report to Neil Sackett, chairman and CEO.
Carter Lumber was the 2007 HCN Pro Dealer of the Year.
Seder has been promoted to senior VP. Under his new role, Seder will be responsible for all finance, credit, technology and all other corporate functions. He joined Carter Lumber in 1984 through the acquisition of Z&L Lumber in Pittsburgh and has held a variety of positions, including technology manager and VP technology, credit and finance.
Carter Lumber Store Operations have been realigned, and a new position has been created to handle these responsibilities. Gleckler, a 22-year Carter Lumber veteran, has been named to the new position of senior VP field operations. Under his new role, district managers and manufacturing divisions will report to Gleckler. He started as a sales associate in Toledo, Ohio, and has held store manager, district manager and most recently regional VP positions with the company.
With their new roles, Seder and Gleckler will work closely together and report to Donley.

Boise Cascade shows sales gains in Q3
Boise, Idaho-based Boise Cascade Co. reported third-quarter sales of $878.0 million, up 15% from the same quarter a year ago.
Net income was $15.9 million, down from $23.5 million in the same quarter last year.
CEO Tom Carlile described solid operating performances in both of the company’s businesses – distribution and wood products.
“Our distribution business rebounded sharply from a challenging second quarter and posted strong sales and earnings growth sequentially and compared with the prior-year quarter,” he said. “Wood Products executed well on internal veneer production, which allowed us to grow engineered wood product sales while maintaining plywood sales volumes.”
He added that the company completed the acquisition of two plywood operations in the Carolinas. “These added facilities position us well to support our existing, as well as new, customers in the Southeast.”
The wood products third-quarter segment sales, including sales to the company’s Building Materials Distribution, were $283.2 million, an increase of 9% from the year-ago quarter.
The building material distribution segment sales were $721.5 million in the third quarter, up 19% or $116.3 million from the same quarter a year ago.
For the remainder of 2013, the company expects to continue to experience demand below 20-year average historical levels for its products. However, the housing industry has shown signs of improvement in the United States, and says it is “optimistic that the improvement in demand for our products will continue.”
Bradley Farnsworth to speak at ProDealer Industry Summit
Bradley T. Farnsworth, president of The Farnsworth Group, will be among five speakers scheduled to appear at this year’s ProDealer Industry Summit in Nashville, Tenn.
Farnsworth created the research-based consulting firm to serve the home improvement, residential building and commercial construction industries. He has ammassed a wealth of experience in category management, store positioning, market segmentation analysis and hybrid market concept development.
Prior to launching The Farnsworth Group, he was VP marketing and director of research for the National Retail Hardware Association (NRHA), where he played a key role as executive director in establishing the Home Improvement Research Institute (HIRI), which HCN is closely affiliated.
Additionally, Farnsworth has served in a VP capacity with Management Horizons, the market research and consulting division of PricewaterhouseCoopers.
The ProDealer Industry Summit, which is hosted jointly by HCN and the NLBMDA, will take place in Nashville, Tenn., Oct. 23-25 and will provide educational and networking opportunities for dealers, distributors, wholesalers and manufacturers.
