CalStar bricks now come with split-face option
Caledonia, Wisconsin-based CalStar Products is now offering its brick and Thru-Wall units in a split-face option.
Split-face bricks have a textured face for a more natural, rustic look that mimics the appearance of natural stones. As per the name, the backside of the brick is smooth and straight for ease of installation.
The split-face option will be available for CalStar’s 8"x24" facing units and Monarch bricks, as well as the new Ambassador brick.
The split-face units will be made with the same 37% recycled content material as other CalStar bricks, which are engineered to bypass the need for kiln-firing to reduce energy and carbon-dioxide emissions.
Porter-Cable router recalled over shock risk
Stanley Black & Decker is recalling certain Porter-Cable routers after discovering that uninsulated handles present an electrical shock risk.
The fixed-based routers and router bases have not been responsible for any reported injuries or incidents so far, according to the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Affected models include four 3 1/4 horsepower, electric, fixed-based production routers and one production router base. They are about 11 inches tall and 7 inches wide, and they include a black plastic top and a painted gray base with two side handles. The routers and base were manufactured and sold between 1990 and April 2014, with model numbers 7518, 7519, 7519EC and 22-7519-60. The base is model number 75361.
Consumers are being asked to immediately stop use, unplug the routers and contact Porter-Cable for a free replacement.
The recall affects about 100,000 units in the United States and 7,800 in Canada.
TW Perry ranks high on top-place-to-work list
Gaithersburg, Maryland-based pro dealer TW Perry ranked sixth in a recent Washington Post listing of top workplaces for mid-size companies.
Following the unveiling of the list June 22, TW Perry president and CEO Michael Cassidy told employees that being a winning team helps morale.

The list is based entirely on employee feedback and comes from a survey by research firm WorkplaceDynamics.
TW Perry is no stranger to industry awards and recognition, including the HCN Pro Dealer of the Year Award, which the pro dealer accepted in 2011.
