A Brooklyn lumberyard burns

Marley Building Supply in Brooklyn, N.Y., erupted into flames over the weekend, and local news accounts described plumes of smoke that reached hundreds of feet into the cold night sky. 

According to the New York Daily News article, some 200 firefighters fought the blaze from midnight to the early moring of Jan. 4. No one was hurt in the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the report.

LP Building Products releases LP Solutions 5.0

LP Building Products is announcing the launch of LP Solutions 5.0, an update to the existing design program currently available to LP SolidStart Engineered Wood Products customers.

“LP Building Products is excited to start 2014 on a high note for our customers with the release of our latest LP Solutions offering,” said Kim Rogers, engineered wood product manager. “We’ve added several new features to make designing even easier, and the program now includes a 64-bit installation as well as our recently launched LP SolidStart LPI 450 and 530 I-Joists.”

The new version will include custom labeling, which gives each member type its own tab for customization. A new smart modeling feature also continously checks for support, providing feedback for unspported objects.

The program also featuers a new closure application for rim board to be cantilevered, a tributary area and rim board feature, and automatically added squash blocks.

In the midst of its ongoing brand makeover, Bostik has been operating under a new visual identity since mid-November, featuring "Smart Adhesives" as its new tagline and a gecko in its logo.

According to the company, the new tagline aims to strengthen its position as a developer of innovative, efficient adhesive solutions.

With its reputation for superior bonding abilities that allow it to cling to various surfaces, the gecko reinforces this message.
