Behr color forecast: think blue

Paint manufacturer Behr has introduced a color trends forecast aimed at professional painters, contractors and remodelers. Blue has been pinpointed by Behr as the leading color family in 2013. Deep, rich jeweled blues such as sapphire, lapis and cobalt will be used in combination with the already available aqua, turquoise and coral families, according to the company.

Blue is contained within each of Behr’s four color scheme projections, which pair the color with other shades or materials, such as wood and stone. 

"BehrPro strives to give professional contractors, painters and remodelers all the solutions they need to better their businesses, and the four distinct color palettes — devised by our team of experts — are versatile for today’s home owners and property managers," said Colin Jaffe, senior VP operations for professional products and services at Behr Process Corp. "While gray will be a predominate color story for neutral walls, we encourage adding splashes of color on accent walls, ceilings and doors to draw attention to open areas and drive traffic to points of interest. Professionals who strengthen their color expertise are adding a beneficial component to their portfolio that will contribute to a better, stronger business foundation."    

The BehrPro service program offers free jobsite delivery by certified coating specialists who can provide onsite color advice and answer product questions. BehrPro also provides access to factory tinting for accurate and consistent color matching. The 2013 Behr color trends brochure and new colors are currently available at Home Depot stores nationwide.

Dog nabs shoplifting suspect at Lowe’s

A canine officer helped capture a suspected thief at a Lowe’s store in Chico, Calif., according to an article in the Chico Enterprise-Record.

A Chico police officer patrolling the area at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6, noticed a damaged chain-link fence in the store’s garden center. Merchandise was stacked nearby.

Two previous shoplifting incidents had been reported at Lowe’s and Home Depot, on Dec. 29 and Dec. 30, respectively.

The Chico officer, Regan Ortega, called for back-up, according to the news report. Several officers responded, including a K-9 unit. One of the suspects, 40-year-old Russell Castor, surrendered. But his brother, Brian Castor, 34, did not. The canine officer, named Luna, was sent in, and the second suspect was apprehended after he was bitten by the dog.

RILA sounds off on Affordable Care Act

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement in response to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) employer mandate proposed rules filed early in January in the Federal Register. 

“RILA applauds the Treasury Department for including flexible solutions in the proposed rules, which were developed with input from our member companies and the Employers for Flexibility in Health Care Coalition,” said Christine Pollack, VP government affairs. “Employers are committed to providing their employees with quality and affordable health benefits. Nonetheless, with the law’s effective date less than a year away, employers still face enormous challenges and costs to comply with the health law.”

RILA has engaged closely with the Treasury Department and other administration agencies in an effort to shape the complex rulemaking process. Last month in a letter to President Obama, RILA highlighted the effect the overdue rules would have on employers. Specifically, RILA has argued that with no time left to reasonably comply with implementation rules, transition relief is needed to allow employers to adapt existing benefits and design future benefits to comply with the law. 

“RILA appreciates the inclusion of transition relief in the proposed rules for non-calendar year employer-sponsored health plans. However, relief is still needed for the employer-sponsored plans that must comply with the law in less than a year. Without it, well-intentioned employers will be subject to a variety of penalties, and coverage for millions of Americans could be jeopardized,” said Pollack.
