Bayou City Lumber stocks shelves with fire-resistant products
Citing the region’s prolonged periods of dry weather, Houston-based Bayou City Lumber has expanded its product offerings to include fire-resistant lumber.
"While it may slowly smolder and show some damage, fire-resistant lumber won’t become engulfed in flames that are allowed to spread to other parts of a structure," said the company in a statement. "Buckling, twisting, warping and disintegrating are avoided because the lumber is designed not to combust. This makes it the perfect choice for isolated areas where fire may have time to spread, and it’s ideal for protecting buildings from the threat of fire that spreads along a fence line."
The company also cited the lumber’s ability to prevent fires from spreading from one area of the house to another.
Bayou City Lumber’s fire-resistant lumber selection will include basic 2×4 frame materials; 2×10 timbers for added support, decks and other projects; and 4×8 plywood sheets for flooring, decking and walls.
LP begins distributing in Denmark
LP Building Products has begun distributing its laminated strand lumber in Denmark through SmartWood A/S, a supplier of engineered wood products that officially began operating in July.
SmartWood, which was founded by technical director Henrik Hviid Pedersen and Kaare Simonsen, will be distributing the LP SolidStart EWP product line, which includes LSL, LVL and i-joist products. SmartWood specializes in traditional wooden frames as well as some specialty products.
“In recent years, Denmark has shifted from building with traditional timber towards engineered wood products such as I-joists and laminated veneer lumber (LVL)," said Pedersen. "Laminated strand lumber—LSL—is the natural next step as its technical properties fit perfectly with the Danish construction industry."
“LP SolidStart LSL offers a host of advantages over traditional timber, including better fastener connections, straightness and increased design flexibility,” explained Al Huber, international sales manager for LP Building Products. “We’re thrilled to be working with SmartWood as they bring this product into the Danish market.”
EPA recognizes efficiency of Delta Faucet
For the second time, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has named Delta Faucet Company one of its 2013 WaterSense Manufacturer Partners of the Year, citing the company’s commitment to water efficiency and utilization of the WaterSense program.
"As a WaterSense partner since the program’s inception, we are committed to working with the EPA to encourage efficient use of water resources and protect the future of our nation’s water supply," said Richard O’Reagan, Delta Faucet Company president. "From consciously working to reduce our footprint to developing environmentally-friendly products and technologies, we recognize our role in helping to sustain the environment."
According to the company, Delta continued its initiative in 2012 to ensure that 100% of its bathroom collections offer a faucet and showerhead that meet EPA standards. The company also launched two new toilets – the Corrente and Prelude – as an expansion of its WatersSense offerings.
"All of our WaterSense partners have taken steps to reduce our nation’s water use, but several stood out in 2012 for their commitment to the WaterSense program and collaborative efforts to promote WaterSense labeled products, new homes and outreach and educational programs," said EPA’s acting assistant administrator for Water Nancy Stoner. "We are pleased to honor Delta Faucet Company for its efforts that support our mission to protect the future of our nation’s water supply."
The honor was awarded during the sixth annual WaterSmart Innovations Conference in Las Vegas. Delta received the award in 2011 as well.
