A cloud computing/e-commerce giant heads up Fast Company’s annual ranking of the 10 most innovative companies in retail.
Amazon not only topped the retail sector category, it also came in number one in the overall World’s 50 Most Innovative Companies listing. (Rounding out the top five: Google, Uber, Apple and Snap.)
“Amazon is a singular enterprise, one that rises to the top …. because it has continued to be nimble even as it has achieved enviable scale,” reported Fast Company.
Here is review of the Fast Company rankings for the retail sector, which mixes the familiar —The Home Depot, TJ Maxx and Ulta Beauty — with such upstarts as online mattress retailer Casper and online men's fashion and streetwear site Hypebeast whose platform offers daily news and unique content on fashion, art, design, music, and more.

Eco Building Products forms a subsidiary
Eco Building Products, Inc. has formed a subsidiary to better position itself among its industry partners.
The subsidiary, dubbed Wood Protection Technologies, Inc., will position the company's intellectual property to attract new, more efficient, lower-cost capital.
"We have entered into discussions with potential joint venture partners as well as potential exclusive licensees for our Eco D-Fence, Eco Red Shield line of products as well as our new FRC EWP fire retardant and are very excited to announce our new subsidiary as an excellent way to operationalize these new relationships and thereby monetize the IP," said Tom Comery, Eco's CEO.
"We have been very deliberate and methodical in repositioning the company as a developer of new and disruptive, environmentally friendly wood protection chemistry. Having first announced the new strategy and direction early last year, we now have two patents pending as well as a new breakthrough in OSB fire retardant," he continued.
"A natural next step in the strategy is to position our IP so that it can attract the industry partners necessary to maximize its full potential. Over the course of the past four months, we have advanced discussions, in depth, with multiple, major industry leaders that can bring distribution, capital and other resources to bear on what we all believe are extremely important new products."
Eco will own 95% of the subsidiary, which will have a separate board of directors and governance. Eco's CEO, Tom Comery, will become CEO for both entities.
DaVinci Roofscapes names new VP
Michael Cobb has joined DaVinci Roofscapes as its VP of sales and marketing.
Cobb, who has more than 26 years of building industry experience, will lead the company's sales force, customer service team and marketing efforts.
"We're excited to bring Michael's industry expertise and insights to our team at DaVinci," says Ray Rosewall, president and CEO of DaVinci Roofscapes. "In particular, his sales leadership will support the sustained growth we've seen during the past decade for our products. With demand continually increasing for synthetic roofing products, we know Michael can lead us into new markets and support our enhanced sales efforts."
Most recently with Nichiha, USA, Inc. in roles involving sales, marketing and logistics, Cobb has additional industry experience with Louisiana-Pacific, Nailite International, James Hardie Building Products and Velux-America. His new leadership role at DaVinci Roofscapes builds on all his previous sales and marketing experiences to allow him to manage the sales and marketing for the roofing company.
