AkzoNobel launches paint visualization app

BY HBSDEALER Staff

London-based paint and coating manufacturer AkzoNobel has employed the technological acumen of String, a U.K. computing company, in its bid to enter the augmented reality ring.

This latest addition to virtual reality-based home improvement applications — most recently exemplified by Lowe’s — helps consumers visualize paint colors in their own homes.

"Choosing interior colors for your home or business is a very personal undertaking," said Paul Skidmore, director of product, who oversaw the development at String. "The capability to choose real paint colors, and then preview them live on your own walls, will we hope, remove some of the risk that consumers might worry about."

Known as the Dulux Visualizer, the free app will be released in major markets (but not the U.S.) throughout June and July, and will be compatible with iOS and Android.

USG sets sights on Chicago’s South Side

BY HBSDEALER Staff

USG Building Products is pitching in to help children and families in Chicago’s South Side neighborhood, joining other companies and organizations at the American Institute of Architects’ annual conference.

The effort will see AEC Cares, USG, Metropolitan Family Services of Chicago, Reed Construction Data and Hanley Wood join together to renovate a 30-year-old building in the neighborhood where many local infants, toddlers and preschoolers go for daycare and early learning.

Dubbed "projectChicago," the building blitz will employ ceiling tiles and other building materials from USG, the time of its employee volunteers, as well as a $10,000 donation from the company.

“USG is proud to support AEC Cares’ projectChicago and do our part to help make a difference in the lives of children living in Chicago and their families,” said Brian Cook, SVP human resources and communications, USG Corporation; and president, USG Foundation. “The fact that this event will assist communities that are neighbors to USG’s headquarters makes it that much more special for us.”
