ABC Supply names CIO
Beloit, Wis.-based ABC Supply, operator of 450 branches in 45 states, named Tony Vaden as chief information officer.
Vaden replaces Kathy Hendricks, who moved to a newly created post as executive director of customer connectivity for ABC Supply.
Vaden is an award-winning veteran of the information technology industry, and he will oversee all aspects of the information technology systems that support the company’s computing needs.
He joins ABC Supply from American Tire Distributors (ATD) where he had been chief information officer. ATD is the largest tire and wheel distributor serving retail tire dealers in the United States and Canada. Previously, Vaden had held senior technology positions at Solectron (now a subsidiary of Flextronics), Dell Inc., and AMP (now TE Connectivity, Ltd.).
Eaton delivers USB charging station
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton is continuing to deliver innovative solutions to end users with the launch of its new Universal Serial Bus (USB) Charging Station. Designed to meet both residential and commercial needs, the new product allows users to tap into four integrated USB ports rated at 5.0 total amperes (A) to quickly and easily charge any device.
"As technology continues to evolve, consumers are looking for more convenient ways to charge their devices,” said Michele Salimbeni, marketing manager, Commercial and Residential, Eaton’s Cooper Wiring Devices business. “We’ve taken our line of USB receptacles one step further, integrating four USB ports. This convenient solution simplifies the charging process by allowing end users to connect a variety of devices.”
Built to eliminate the need for bulky adaptors, the new USB Charging Station has the ability to replace traditional duplex receptacles. For easy installation, the device also includes pre-stripped wire leads, making it ideal for new construction or retrofit applications.
The USB Charging Station is well-suited for both residential and commercial applications, including coffee shops, airports and offices.
From the AHMA survey: hot topics
The American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA) surveyed members on two hot topic questions.
As sales of existing-homes fell in October for the second consecutive month, the AHMA asked: “Is a strong housing market important to the success of your business?”
Ninety percent responded “Yes,” and 10% responded “No.”
Secondly, with the Affordable Care Act stumbling out of the gates, the AHMA asked: “How important is it to your business that implementation of the Affordable Care Act allows you to provide quality, affordable healthcare insurance plans to your employees?”
The survey shows 35% responded “Very important,” 10% responded “Somewhat important,” and 55% responded “Not important.”
