84 Lumber honors Weyerhaeuser
84 Lumber, the country’s fifth-largest LBM dealer with more than 250 locations, has named Weyerhaeuser as its Vendor Partner of the Year, the forest product giant announced.
The award recognizes sales growth, consistent service and value-added support.
Among 84’s vendor partners, Weyerhaeuser achieved the largest sales volume and sales dollars year to date, with an 83% increase over 2012, the company said. The pro dealer recognized Weyerhaeuser as “a great strategic partner,” noting in particular its ability to maintain a consistent flow of wood products from its mills at a time when some in the industry are experiencing supply constraints. Weyerhaeuser also has been a consistently reliable source for a variety of commodities and specialty building products through its national network of distribution centers.
“Weyerhaeuser prides itself on providing our dealers with not only quality products and reliable service, but on being a true partner through value-added benefits, such as training, marketing tools and our in-field sales team that provides one-on-one support,” said Steve Grohowalski, national account manager for Weyerhaeuser.
Weyerhaeuser, one of the world’s largest forest products companies, began operations in 1900.

Vulcan sells future production interest to Plum Creek
Vulcan Materials Company has sold an interest in the future production of its four quarries in Atlantia, Ga., to Plum Creek Timber Company, Inc.
The transaction involves a percentage royalty interest in 255 million tons of aggregate production over 25 years.
"In Plum Creek, we have a partner that shares our long-term view of the value and growth in the aggregates business and is investing based on that view," said Donald M. James, Vulcan chairman and CEO. "This transaction provides us capital to deploy in strategic investments in our aggregates business and to strengthen our balance sheet."
The sale gives Vulcan the opportunity to improve its bottom line while maintaining operational ownership over the assets. The company expects a pre-tax gain of $154 million over the life of the transaction, less modest transaction expenses.
