Ace Hardware is taking steps to end DIY procrastination when it comes to painting projects. The effort includes free paint delivery, free samples, and a free month’s use of a babysitter search tool.

And the clock is ticking. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based co-op declared Saturday, April 3 as the mythical “Some Day” for DIYers to get around to it.

A February 2021 YouGov survey of 1,008 DIY painters revealed that 84% have a room in their home they want to paint, and more than half (52%) say they plan to paint someday in the next six months or the next year.

Finding time to paint is the top obstacle for 44 percent of them.

In the face of those obstacles, Ace is offering the following deals through April 3:

• For Ace Rewards customers, a free month of babysitter search and screening tools through Sittercity. Consider that 14% of survey respondents who are parents say one of their obstacles to painting is lack of childcare resources.
• ‘Free Sample Saturday’ event on March 20th at all participating Ace stores. Customers get a free Benjamin Moore color sample to test at home before committing to a color choice. Picking out a color is an obstacle to painting for 22% of customers.
Free paint delivery on orders over $50. Applies to participating Ace Hardware stores. Product can be ordered online and personally delivered by an Ace Hardware employee.

“Paint is the easiest way to put a fresh face on tired walls or make old siding look and feel new again. We also realize paint procrastination is real,” says Kim Lefko, chief marketing officer at Ace Hardware.“ A new pop of color or walls that make your friends talk is the perfect way to kickstart spring; fresh paint feels better than your deepest spring cleaning.”
