The board of directors at the Sherwin-Williams Company elected Matthew Thornton III as its newest member.

Effective July 16, Thornton will join the board as its tenth director, as well as a member of its audit committee.

Piscataway, New Jersey-based American Standard Brands President and CEO Jay Gould was appointed to the board of directors of American Standard’s parent company, LIXIL Corporation.

Gould joined American Standard Brands in January 2012. 

Over the course of the next 18 months, according to the company’s announcement, Gould executed a plan that quadrupled the company's EBITA, grew sales by 10 percent and improved gross margins by 700 basis points.

Joseph Harper, Sr. has retired from the board of directors at Sterling Construction Company, effective June 11.

Harper has been involved with Sterling since the days of its predecessor, joining the company in 1972, six years before its from from Sterling Heights, Michigan to Houston.

His roles at the company have ran the gamut from project management to executive roles such as CFO, treasurer, and most recently, president and COO.

Louisiana-Pacific Corp. announced that Archie W. Dunham retired from the board of directors at the annual meeting of shareholders as required by the mandatory retirement age in the bylaws. 

Dunham has served on the board since 1996 and during his tenure served as the chairman of the Finance and Audit Committee and was also a member of both the Compensation Committee and Executive Committee. He is the former president and CEO of Conoco.

Mark Weikel, the president and CEO of Luxottica Retail Optical North America, has been appointed to the board of directors of Tractor Supply Co.

At Luxottica, Weikel leads a brand portfolio that includes LensCrafters, Pearle Vision, Sears Optical and Target Optical, which generates more than $3.0 billion in revenue systemwide. Prior to his various positions at Luxottica, he served in executives positions for Lord & Taylor, Victoria's Secret Stores and the MAY Department Stores Co.

The Ryland Group has elected Thomas Toomey, who is president and CEO of UDR, Inc., to its board of directors.

Toomey has been at the helm of UDR since he joined the company over 10 years ago. Previous to his role there, Toomey was COO and CFO at Apartment Investment and Management Comany.

He also currently serves on the board of the National Association of Real Estate Investment Trusts and the National Multi Housing Council.

UDR is a multi-family real estate investment trust and an S&P 400 company.

Having served since September 2007, Dr. Zhao Jiuran has resigned from Agria Corporation's board of directors, effective Nov. 19.

Just days after he was blindsided by his dismissal, former AlarmForce CEO Joel Matlin has voluntarily resigned from the company's board of directors, the company announced.

The resignation, effective July 30, comes about a week after he was unanimously terminated by the board on July 23 following a year-long strategic review, with the possibility of a sale that failed to attract a buyer.

The 30-year AHMA veteran will retire as vice chairman of the American Hardware Manufacturers Association (AHMA), but will remain as a liftetime honorary member of the board.

After more than 30 years of service to the AHMA, Farrell will assume the title of vice chairman emeritus, according to the Schaumburg, Ill.-based industry group. He will continue to represent the association at various industry events.
