Denver -- Though many of the usual suspects were on-hand at the 2014 True Value Fall Reunion, more than one of the show floor's sizzling merchandise developments took place among the grills.

Relatively new to the hardware scene is Traeger Grills, a line of sleek wood pellet grills that now feature a Digital Pro Controller with dual meat probes, a removable grill shelf and EZ-Fold legs for added portability.

The grills can also double as convection ovens, opening the door to all kinds of possibilities that include hickory-smoked chocolate chip cookies.

Lowe’s has begun selling four new products that work with Iris, the home improvement company’s smart home program. The products can communicate with Iris and be controlled remotely via computer, smartphone or tablet.

The new additions to the line are a water timer for faucets, a window blinds controller, a garage door opener and a pet door. The Z-Wave garage door opener and Iris window blinds controllers let homeowners operate their home with their phones, and allows them to schedule what times of day the blinds are open.

Houston-based Quanex Building Products has announced the appointments of Dewayne Williams and Martin P. Ketelaar as corporate officers.

Williams was named VP and corporate controller, effective July 1. He will be responsible for all internal and external financial accounting and reporting functions. Williams was previously VP, corporate controller, chief accounting officer and assistant treasurer for Complete Production Services, an oilfield service provider.

Marking the first time an outdoor technology has earned the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) WaterSense label, Cyber-Rain, of Encino, Calif., announced that its full line of weather-based controllers has been independently certified to meet the WaterSense specification for weather-based irrigation controllers. 

Homeowners, municipalities, businesses and irrigation professionals can now select WaterSense-labeled controllers that operate like a thermostat for sprinkler systems.

Brenda McCormick, Valspar’s assistant controller and senior finance director, was promoted to Controller, according to a Feb. 16 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). McCormick also served as  finance director at Valspar. 

In previous experience, McCormick held positions as director financial reporting, planning and analysis at Lawson Software and director financial reporting - consumer products at International Multifoods.

Beacon Roofing Supply appointed Rick C. Welker as VP and chief accounting officer effective Nov. 18. 

Welker formerly served as VP and corporate controller and will continue to report to David R. Grace, executive VP and chief financial officer. 

Welker, age 52, is a CPA and CMA and began his career with PricewaterhouseCoopers. He joined Beacon in 2004 prior to its IPO and has assisted with the company's substantial growth including many acquisitions, according to the company's statement.

Boise Cascade has announced the resignation of Bernadette Madarieta as VP and controller, effective Jan. 31.

The board of directors has elected Kelly Hibbs as the company’s new VP and controller. The 44-year-old executive served as director of strategic planning and internal audit since February 2008.  

Prior to that position, Hibbs served for seven years as manager of financial forecasts and projects for Boise Cascade and OfficeMax.
