European home improvement retailer Kingfisher has found a new CEO in Veronique Laury, formerly the head of the company's French unit, Castorama.

Laury will fill the shoes of Ian Cheshire, who served as chief executive for nearly seven years and is stepping down by the end of 2014. She will also become the fifth female CEO in Britain's FTSE 100 index of blue chip companies.

Toll Brothers is expanding its footprint in California through the purchase of Shapell Industries' home building business.

"This acquisition will provide significant growth over the coming years and, we believe, will be accretive to earnings in the first year, excluding transaction costs," said Douglas Yearley, Toll Brothers chief executive.

William Oberton, CEO of Fastenal, came in third place on the top “Wealth Creators” by Chief Executive magazine. The annual list shows which CEOs have created the most value for shareholders during the three-year period from July 2009 through June 2012. The rankings were limited to CEO’s at S&P 500 companies who had been in their jobs for at least three years.

Christopher Connor, CEO of paint manufacturer Sherwin Williams, ranked No. 14. James Ryan, chief executive of W.W. Grainger, came in 10th place.

Louisiana-Pacific Corp. has announced the appointment of Curt Stevens as its new CEO, effective May 4. He will replace Rick Frost, who is retiring after seven years as chief executive. Frost will remain with the company until May 31 to aid in the transition.

Orchard Supply Hardware has gone through a lot of changes in its 80-year history, but the California chain — now numbering 89 units with $660.7 million in annual sales — has weathered them all. Changes in ownership, leadership, store design, color scheme and signage have come and gone. But the stores’ customers — known for their exceptional loyalty — have generally stuck with the chain.

It’s been a tumultuous summer so far for ProBuild, the nation’s largest pro dealer, as it tries to keep its head above a churning housing market that has already pulled apart or capsized many of its competitors. Being a privately held company, ProBuild has done its best to quietly close or sell off yards, downsize staff and add — or subtract — staffing under the radar.

Sears Holdings Corp. has named a former technology executive as its new chief executive. The struggling retailer’s three-year search for a permanent CEO came to an end with the announcement on Wednesday that it has appointed Lou D’Ambrosio as chief executive and president. He will assume the office and join Sears’ board on Feb. 24.
