Tile Shop Holdings got a big boost to its coffers in the form of a 14.7% net sales increase in the second quarter, the company reported Monday.

Net sales for the three months ended June 30 were $66.7 million, compared with $58.1 million in year-ago terms. Comparable-store sales increased 0.3%.

Net income for the quarter was $3.8 million, up from $3.6 million in the second quarter of 2013. Tile Shop also saw green for the six-month period, posting income of $7.5 million compared with a loss of $41.1 million the year before.

New store activity pushed Tile Shop Holdings net sales growth up into double digits in the first quarter, even though comp-store sales declined. 

Minneapolis-based Tile Shop Holdings, a specialty retailer of manufactured and natural stone tiles, setting and maintenance materials, saw net sales grow 13.3% to $64.4 million for the period ended March 31. Comparable-store sales declined 2.3%.

After making major investments in store openings and infrastructure in 2013, Tile Shop Holdings reported fourth-quarter improvements in sales and earnings.

But with a full-year loss of $35.7 million, the company said it still has a long way to go.

In the fourth quarter, the specialty retailer of manufactured and natural stone tiles, reported net sales of $57.8 million, up 25.2% from the year-ago period. Comparable-store sales increased 10.1%.
