The NRHA set its sights on Joe Taylor, president and CEO of Taylor's Do it Centers in Virginia, as one of three 2014 "Top Gun" honorees from around the industry.

Taylor was recognized for his role in continuing the robust legacy of the Taylor's tradition, which has given rise to 11 retail locations statewide and spans four generations. In acknowledgment of its history, robust numbers and adaptability, It's credited as one of the nation's most successful family-owned hardware operations.

Dan Starr and Doug Roth will be promoted into Do it Best's upper management June 1, when longtime executives Dave Haist and Dave Dietz plan to retire. 

“Any transition like this is a mix of emotions and sentiment,” said Bob Taylor, president and CEO. “While we are saddened to see a couple of key, longtime contributors like Dave Haist and Dave Dietz retire, we are equally excited to have two very talented individuals in Dan Starr and Doug Roth stepping up to fill those positions.”

East Rutherford, N.J.-based Allied Building Products Corp., a division of Oldcastle, has completed its acquisition of Astro Building Supplies, a privately held wholesale building materials supplier based in Taylor, Mich.

Astro Building Supplies, a two-branch distributor of roofing, siding and windows, was founded in 1966 by Don Speer. While focusing primarily on the remodeling communities in Taylor and Roseville, Mich., the two branches provide Allied with a necessary presence in southeast Detroit.

Energy costs and slow job growth are tempering expectations at Taylor, Mich.-based Masco, which posted a loss of $46 million in the first quarter, compared to a loss of $7 million in the same quarter last year.

 Masco saw sales decline 4% to $1.8 billion in its first quarter of 2011. North American sales decreased seven percent and International sales increased four percent.   

"While we still believe that the second half of 2011 will be stronger than the first half, our enthusiasm has been tempered somewhat," said Masco CEO Tim Wadhams.
