Effective Jan. 1, Weyerhaeuser Company has named Cathy Slater to the role of SVP, Cellulose Fibers and Adrian Blocker to the role of SVP, Wood Products. 

Slater will be transitioning from her current SVP role leading the company's Engineered Products and Distribution businesses, though her career at Weyerhaeuser has also familiarized her greatly with Cellulose Fibers. She succeeds Shaker Chandrasekaran, who will retire early next year.

Armstrong World Industries has reshuffled its management structure, appointing Donald Maier to the post of EVP and CEO, Armstrong Flooring Products, in order to fill the vacancy left by Thomas Mangas.

Previously, Maier was serving as SVP global operations excellence. He has been with the company since 2010, during which time he played a pivotal role in the company's Lean transformation and established a new project management process and safety program.

He has also worked for TPG Capital Advisors and as VP and general manager of Hill-Rom's North American business.

The Home Depot has promoted Ted Decker to the position of EVP merchandising, where he will take the helm of the company's merchandising strategy and operations. Effective Aug. 4, Decker will transition from his most recent role as SVP retail finance and begin reporting to Craig Menear, president U.S. Retail.

Decker has been with the company for 14 years, during which time he played an integral role in the company's merchandising transformation and led the implementation of new pricing and analytics processes.

Lowe's has a new SVP in Michael Tummillo, who is taking over the Building and Maintenance division as SVP and general merchandising manager.

In his new role, Tummillo will be responsible for the company's Lumber & Building Materials, Millwork, Tools & Hardware and Rough Plumbing & Electrical divisions.

He replaces Michael McDermott, who will now serve as CMO and direct supervisor to Tummillo.

The National Retail Federation (NRF) is urging Congress to pass legislation that would require online and remote sellers to collect state and local sales taxes, telling a House committee that lawmakers should level the playing field between local retailers and out-of-state competitors.

David French, SVP of the NRF, told the House Judiciary Committee in a letter that legislation is needed to end the sales tax disparity.

The Tile Shop has announced its plans to open its first-ever super store in San Antonio.

This entails a 31,200-sq.ft. space -- its biggest in the country -- which compares with its usual average of 23,000-sq.-ft. retail locations. The super store will feature a selection of 4,500 stone and tile products.

Carl Randazzo, SVP retail for The Tile Shop, said that the additional square footage allows for an expansion of the retailer's product presentation.

Weyerhaeuser has named Rhonda Hunter SVP Timberlands, succeeding soon-to-be-retired Tom Gideon.

Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Hunter will be officially promoted from her current role as VP of Weyerhaeuser's Southern Timberlands operation, which she's held since 2010. Previously, she held other leadership roles within the division, which involved planning and inventory, regional management, environmental and work systems, finance and land acquisition. She has been with the company since 1987.
