American Builders Supply (ABS), one of the largest independent suppliers of doors, windows and trusses to home builders in Florida, has added two industry executives from ProBuild, 84 Lumber and HD Supply to its ranks. Both will report to CEO Bill Myrick at ABS's Sanford, Fla., headquarters.

Bill Myrick, the former CEO of ProBuild and chief operating officer of 84 Lumber, has been hired as CEO of American Builders Supply (ABS), a leading supplier of doors, windows, millwork and trusses to home builders in Florida. ABS, which is owned by Blue Wolf Capital Partners, has five Florida locations and has consolidated four leading independent competitors in the last 15 months.

Robert Marchbank, the newly appointed CEO of ProBuild, is a seasoned executive who spent 19 years moving up the ranks at Ferguson Enterprises, where he eventually became CEO for the entire European operation. He takes on the top job at the largest LBM chain during the LBM’s worst downturn — in many ways, not an enviable position.

It’s been a tumultuous summer so far for ProBuild, the nation’s largest pro dealer, as it tries to keep its head above a churning housing market that has already pulled apart or capsized many of its competitors. Being a privately held company, ProBuild has done its best to quietly close or sell off yards, downsize staff and add — or subtract — staffing under the radar.

Jim Cavanaugh, president of operations at ProBuild and one of the company’s veteran executives, is leaving the company at the end of August, Home Channel News has learned. A spokeswoman for ProBuild confirmed the news and issued the following statement: 

“We thank [Cavanaugh] for his many contributions to our company and wish him well in his future endeavors. Jim will continue to work closely with our operations team until Aug. 31, 2011, in order to ensure a smooth transition.”

Tom Leete, whose career in LBM distribution included positions at Scotty's, Home Depot, Pelican and, finally, ProBuild, died June 7. He was 64.

Leete's resume also includes positions as a buyer at Scotty's and Home Depot. He was senior VP and general merchandise manager at HomeCrafters Warehouse, no longer in existence. At Pelican Cos., he served as VP merchandising.
