A product linked to the Environmental Protection Agency’s lead paint rule has been approved for use on drywall and plaster.

The 3M LeadCheck Swabs, in compliance with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Renovation, Repair and Painting Rule (RRP), are now recognized by the EPA for use on drywall and plaster.

The swaps are designed to turn red in the presence of lead and were the first commercially available lead test kit recognized by the EPA for use on painted wood and metal.

Saint-Gobain Performance Plastics said its Green Glue Noiseproofing Compound and Sealant is now available at Menards stores.

Previously, Green Glue products were obtainable only through the Green Glue website or a network of specialty acoustic distributors. Now the products are available for contractors, DIYers and home theater enthusiasts to purchase directly in the building materials section of 232 Menards stores in the Midwest, the company said.

The U.S. Consumer Products Safety Commission (CPSC), in its final report on tainted drywall, has issued a set of updated recommendations that may lower the cost of remediation for some homeowners.

The updated remediation guidance is based on studies just completed by the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on potential long term corrosion effects of problem drywall on gas piping, fire sprinkler heads, and smoke alarms.

Mannington Mills, a 96-year-old flooring company headquartered in Salem, N.J., has found a way to incorporate vinyl tile scraps and recycled drywall into its manufacturing process in an effort to generate less waste, according to an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Diboll, Texas-based Temple-Inland expanded its GreenGlass family of products to include a tile backer.

GreenGlass features a built-in, moisture-blocking acrylic coating that resists water penetration through its surface, plus a water-resistant gypsum core formulated to include the TemShield Mold Protection System. Faced on both sides with naturally mold- and moisture-resistant fiberglass mats, this combination has been shown to be highly mold-resistant in tests.

LP’s Flameblock sheathing, a fire-resistant oriented strand board (OSB), has earned a UL listing from the Underwriters Laboratories Canada (ULC). This listing followed three rounds of fire testing by ULC, satisfying requirements for use of the ULC label on the product. The testing was conducted at ULC’s fire testing facility in Toronto, Ontario.
