Scott Wirges has been named store manager of Parr Lumber's Eugene, Ore. location, effective Nov. 11.

Wirges is returning to the company after a four-year hiatus. Previously, he had held numerous positions with the company between 1991 and 2009. 

Before he joined the building industry as a Copeland Lumber employee, Wirges served in the Marines.

Oregonian lumberyard Parr Lumber has widened its sphere of influence via the Pacific Northwest's AM radio frequency. Its increasingly popular Weekend Warriors Home Improvement Radio Show has been picked up by stations across Oregon and Washington to deliver down-to-earth advice and market knowledge to homeowners throughout the region.

Pacific Northwest pro dealer Parr Lumber has partnered with Smart Vent Products, a provider of flood mitigation products. Smart Vent protects buildings from the devastation and destruction that hurricanes, floods or other natural disasters can cause through its line of automatic foundation flood vents. These products are certified by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and accepted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Each standard model is certified for 200 sq. ft. of flood coverage per unit.

A group of preschoolers stung by wasps have transformed their experience into a giant map of Portland, thanks in part to a donation by Parr Lumber. The Maple classroom at Growing Seeds, a children’s learning center in North Portland, was given two large sheets of plywood by the Northwestern pro dealer to transform into a mural of their favorite places in Portland.

Central Oregon Builders Association (COBA) has named Parr Lumber as its Materials Supplier of the Year at the organization’s annual Excellence Awards Gala. COBA, a nonprofit trade association, promotes high ethical standards within the building industry and provides services to its members who hail from Crook, Deschutes, Harney and Jefferson counties. COBA serves an important role in the region improving and upholding quality craftsmanship and encouraging best practices and ethical behavior from its members.

Parr Lumber, the Pacific Northwest-based pro dealer, has announced plans to open another lumberyard on Dec. 14, 2011. The new location, in Marysville, Wash., will feature a 20,200-sq.-ft. warehouse on 4.4 acres, office space and 1,500 sq. ft. of retail space.

Parr Lumber recently replaced a truck stolen from a Habitat for Humanity Portland/Metro East job site.

On Sept. 29, Habitat construction staff and volunteers found that the truck, power tools and construction materials had been taken from the Victoria Cottages job site – which will be home to eight local, hardworking families -- near SE 204th and SE Stark in Gresham, Ore.

Parr Lumber has relocated its Fife, Wash., cabinet outlet to a 23,000-sq.-ft. facility just outside Tacoma, the company has announced. The grand opening is set for Sept. 10.

The new store will feature a 4,500-sq.-ft. showroom with thousands of in-stock oak, maple, cherry, and birch cabinets, countertops, hardware and appliances. 

In 2003 Parr opened its first cabinet outlet in Hillsboro, Ore., where the company maintains its headquarters. Now there are 10 cabinet outlet locations in five states.

Building material co-op Lumbermens Merchandising Corporation (LMC) has announced the addition of Hillsboro, Ore.-based Parr Lumber to its group of independent lumberyards. Parr Lumber has 30 locations in the Northwest and ranked 13th on the Home Channel News Top 200 Pro Dealer Scoreboard.

Parr Lumber, the Pacific Northwest-based pro dealer, has promoted Nate Rasmussen to the position of eastern Washington regional sales manager. Rasmussen will develop sales strategies to increase services to key accounts in Spokane, Yakima and the Tri-Cities.  Previously Rasmussen managed contractor sales for Parr in the Portland metro area.
