Gibson’s career includes 30 years of experience selling building products through wholesale distribution. He has 17 years of experience of product management for Spenard Builders Supply and 13 years travelling Alaska for Huttig Building Products as a territory manager.

The Pacific Northwest farm and ranch retailer Coastal Farm & Ranch is using chicks to entice customers this weekend.

The 15-location retailer plans to give away thousands (one report puts the number at 6,000) baby chicks at its stores to customers who buy 25 pounds or more of chick starter feed.

Chick and chick-related products are one of the clear growth areas for distributors and retailers, based on showings at recent hardware and farm and ranch-focused distributor shows.

Albany, Ore.-based Coastal Farm and Ranch boosted its footprint to 15 Northwest locations with the purchase of three Big R stores.

Coastal’s three new locations are in the Oregon cities of Klamath Falls, White City and Redmond, formerly held by Tyrholm Big R, based in White City.

Terms of the deal were not released.

Federal Way, Wash.-based Weyerhaeuser posted net earnings of $540 million for the full year 2013, up from $385 million in 2012. 

Net sales for the year were $8.5 billion, up from $7.1 billion in 2012.

The company noted that in 2013 it doubled earnings before special items, increased its per share dividend by nearly 30% and announced a deal to combine its real estate operation with TRI Pointe Homes. It also acquired about 645,000 acres of timberlands in the Pacific Northwest through the purchase of Longview Timber.

BMC also identified outstanding individual performances. The 88-unit pro dealer recognized Christopher Cysensky as Platinum Salesman of the Year. Cysensky is the outside sales representative for the Pacific Northwest, working in the company's Tacoma, Wash., location. The performance-based award was given Tuesday night during the Sales Awards Ceremony and Dinner.

Pacific Northwest pro dealer Parr Lumber has partnered with Smart Vent Products, a provider of flood mitigation products. Smart Vent protects buildings from the devastation and destruction that hurricanes, floods or other natural disasters can cause through its line of automatic foundation flood vents. These products are certified by the International Code Council Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) and accepted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). Each standard model is certified for 200 sq. ft. of flood coverage per unit.

Scranton, Pa.-based AZEK Building Products signed a distribution deal with OrePac Building Products, a building materials wholesaler serving the West and Pacific Northwest.   

Under the agreement, OrePac’s Denver, Colo., and Salt Lake City, Utah, branches will offer the full line of premium, exterior AZEK products.  OrePac’s Denver branch covers Colorado, Eastern Wyoming, Northern New Mexico and the Scottsbluff area of Nebraska, while the Salt Lake City branch covers Utah, Southwestern Wyoming, Eastern Nevada and Southeastern Idaho.

Pacific States Industries, a California-based forest products and building materials company, acquired the privately owned Hoquiam Plywood Co. of Hoquiam, Wash. 

The Hoquiam facility is known for its premium plywood sheathing. Operations at the western Washington facility will come under the direction of Pacific States Plywood (PSP), headquartered in Springfield, Ore.

ProBuild Holdings, the nation’s largest pro dealer, has announced a restructuring that will eliminate several high level management positions, lay off a number of people, and institute a hiring freeze at its Denver headquarters. 

In an internal memo obtained by Home Channel News, ProBuild’s CEO Rob Marchbank outlined the new leadership and reporting structure of the Denver-based company. The executive VP operations layer of management will be eliminated, and all senior VPs of operations will report directly to Marchbank.

Weyerhaeuser’s iLevel division will begin distributing James Hardie fiber cement siding and trim products through its Pacific Northwest service centers, the company has announced, making the products available to iLevel customers in western Washington, Oregon and Hawaii.

James Hardie products are currently sold through iLevel’s network of distribution centers into 20 markets.

Parr Lumber, the Pacific Northwest-based pro dealer, has promoted Nate Rasmussen to the position of eastern Washington regional sales manager. Rasmussen will develop sales strategies to increase services to key accounts in Spokane, Yakima and the Tri-Cities.  Previously Rasmussen managed contractor sales for Parr in the Portland metro area.
