“The all-around breadth of the trading performance was pleasing, with sales growth achieved in consumer and commercial areas, within all merchandising categories and across all regions of Australia and New Zealand,” Gillam said.

The company announced total store sales growth of 11.7%, and comparable-store sales gains of 8.4%.

A new report from Wood Resource Quarterly, a 52-page market report on the timber and forest industry, has found that New Zealand is responsible for over 20% of the world's softwood log trade.

By comparison, Russia and the U.S. rank second and third, respectively, as global log suppliers, contributing about 15% of the world's log trade each.

Raynoier's board of directors has promoted Lynn Wilson to the post of EVP forest resources.

Wilson, who has over 20 years of experience in the forestry industry, currently oversees 2.6 million acres of timberland in nine U.S. states and New Zealand, as well as the administration of the company's Land Information Services and timberland acquisition team.

Prior to her role at Rayonier, she served as VP operations support at Plum Creek, where she had held several roles of increasing responsibility.

Chestnut Ridge, N.Y.-based Soft By Nature is pointing to clothes dryers as real energy hogs and pointing to its own Woolzies as an energy-saving idea.

The company has launched Woolzies, an all-natural fabric softener for use in dryers. Neither a dryer sheet nor a liquid, Woolzies are New Zealand wool dryer balls that soften laundry naturally, without any of the chemicals found in conventional fabric softeners.
