Mahwah, N.J.-based Frost King (Thermwell Products Co. Inc.) has acquired PortaSeal LLC of Morristown N.J. 

PortSeal makes weathersealing products, including Gara-Seal, a rigid vinyl strip with a flexible vinyl flange, which seals the top and sides of garage doors.

Both companies in the transaction are privately owned and operated: PortaSeal by Stanley Garbowy; and Thermwell by David and Mel Gerstein, twin sons of one of the two founding brothers.

A man suspected of stealing more than $100,000 worth of merchandise from 70 Home Depot stores pled guilty on Oct. 23 to a charge of organized retail theft in a Morristown, N.J. Superior Court, according to an article in the Daily Record.

Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe's has agreed to pay $120,000 to settle a religious discrimination and retaliation lawsuit over an employee who claimed he was scheduled to work on Sunday, against his wishes.

Moore Hardware, a 90-year-old hardware store in Morristown, N.J., is going out of business, according to an article in the Star-Ledger.

Owner Dan Sweeney blamed a number of factors, including the recession, competition from big-box stores and the slow real estate market.

“The loss of customers I’ve experienced in the last three years is unparalleled to anything I’ve seen,” Sweeney told the newspaper.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission has filed suit against Mooresville, N.C.-based Lowe’s March 30, for allegedly requiring an employee of its Morristown, Tenn., store to work on Sunday.

“Lowe's Home Centers committed religious discrimination by requiring an employee to work on his Sabbath, and by harassing and retaliating against the employee, causing him to lose hours,” the EEOC said in a release issued March 31.
