Net earnings for the fiscal year ended Oct. 31 were $173.9 million, up from $154.8 million in fiscal 2013.

A subsidiary of Universal Forest Products, Inc. has acquired an 80% interest in certain assets of Packnet, Ltd., an industrial packaging and services supplier headquartered in Eagan, Minnesota.

The deal includes the option to purchase the remaining 20% of interest in three years. Packnet owner and CEO Mike Nyberg will remain in place at the head of the operation.

The Valspar Foundation is donating $40,000 to the Minnesota Zoo Foundation in support of the state's sixth annual "Give to the Max Day" this Nov. 13.

The donation is a matching gift for the Zoo's Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) programs, which include educational resources, classes, tours and special event days.

Installed Building Products, a major insulation installer based in Columbus, Ohio, is expanding its Midwestern presence through the acquisition of Installed Building Solutions, LLC ("IBS").

Farmington, Minnesota-based IBS is an installer of fiberglass insulation, spray foam insulation and waterproofing products that serves burgeoning markets throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin and North Dakota.

Frattallone's Ace Hardware of Minnesota was recognized by Ace Hardware Corp. as the co-op's All-Star Retailer of the Year for its contributions to the Children's Miracle Network.

Mike Frattallone accepted the award during a presentation at the Ace Hardware General Session in Orlando, Florida. The ceremony included an appearance on stage alongside Aiden Morales, the 10-year-old ambassador of Ace's fundraising programs across the country.

Chicago -- Ideas for loyalty in a competitive climate came fast and furious during an educational session here at the Orgill Fall Market.

The session, called "How to effectively use a customer loyalty program," was led by Theresa Neal, head of new business development for Eden Prairie, Minnesota-based Pro/Phase Marketing. The company's RepeatRewards program has a business relationship with Orgill, providing a menu of real-time loyalty services.

Manufacturer of kitchen and bathroom cabinetry Norcraft Companies reported sales and earnings gains for its second quarter.

The Eagan, Minnesota-based company posted net sales of $97.6 million, up 8.1% from the previous quarter. It also saw net income increase from $9.1 million to $11.2 million.

St. Paul, Minnesota-based EcoWater Systems, a Marmon Water/Berkshire Hathaway company, is transforming how consumers interact with their water treatment systems with the introduction of HydroLink Plus Wi-Fi web-based technology. HydroLink Plus makes it possible to monitor and manage EcoWater water treatment systems and water usage via a smartphone, tablet or computer from virtually anywhere inside or outside the home.

Winona, Minnesota-based Fastenal Company reported steady progress for the second quarter of 2014, with sales and earnings both positive.

Net sales for the three-month period ended June 30, 2014 were $949.9 million, up 12.1% from the same period in 2013.

Net earnings came in at $130.5 million, an increase of 7.9% from last year's $121.0 million in earnings.

The company largely attributed the boost to higher unit sales and its recent investment in leadership and training, as well as in distribution and internal manufacturing capabilities.

On Thursday, July 10, The Toro Company looked back on a century's worth of farm and ranch innovations during its 100th anniversary celebration.

More than 2,000 employees, retirees, partners and guests came to the company headquarters in Bloomington, Minnesota, including Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton and Bloomington Mayor Gene Winstead.

Andersen Corporation is anticipating an $18 million expansion of its manufacturing facility in Bayport, Minnesota, a move that's expected to add 100 full-time jobs to the local economy.

The project will involve improvements on an existing building at its complex and the purchase of new machinery.

Andersen will also get some help from the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED), which will award the company $625,000 from the Minnesota Job Creation Fund provided it meets its performance goals.
