Bud ran the Indianapolis-based Frank S. Howard Company after his dad Frank retired in 1968 until he retired in 1992. Bud called on accounts in the states of Indiana, Kentucky, and Southern Ohio for 35 plus years.

Indianapolis -- Do it Best Corp. distributed more than a $100 million in member rebates during the co-op's annual shareholders meeting Sunday night. 

It was the 11th consecutive year of $100 million-plus rebates, and another chance for CEO Bob Taylor to present his state-of-the company report -- emphasis on members growing their business and overcoming challenges.

Indianapolis -- Farm and ranch and home automation were included in a list of highlights and opportunities for retailers attending the Do it Best Fall Market, which includes 61 new vendors this year.

Back by popular demand on the show floor is a 5,000 sq.-ft. Farm & Ranch exhibit, said Steve Markley, VP of Merchandising for the Fort Wayne, Indiana-based co-op.

“Farm and ranch is a fast growing segment for us,” Markley said during the co-op’s Merchandising Market Preview. “There are all kinds of opportunities in that area.”

Indianapolis -- The Do it Best Fall Market is under way in Indianapolis, where dealers and vendors will be conducting business through Monday afternoon. 

Friday’s events included a day of education, as well as a Power Preview in Victory Field. Here at the home of the Indianapolis Indians, dealers get a taste of the latest in outdoor power equipment, plus a tasty samples from the grill exhibits.

Julie Lyle, chief marketing officer for Indianapolis appliance, electronics and furniture retailer hhgregg, has been named the 2015 chairperson for the Global Retail Marketing Association (GRMA) Advisory Board.

As chairperson, Lyle will lead the GRMA Advisory Board and play a key role in the development of the organization’s strategic initiatives and thought leadership. Lyle succeeds Brian Beitler, EVP and chief marketing officer, David’s Bridal, who served as chairman from 2012 to 2014.

Lowe's revealed its plans Tuesday to build a new Customer Support Center in Indianapolis, which is expected to reach completion by 2016.

The announcment was made with Lowe's officials in the company of Indiana Governor Mike Pence and Indianapolis Mayor Greg Ballard.

Indianapolis -- Rich Lynch, who was named VP of marketing for Fort Wayne, Ind.-based Do it Best Corp. back in March, said he learned some valuable lessons about retail from his teenage years as a hardware store employee -- and also from his years as a marketing executive for Jim Beam.

Lynch met with the media here during the co-op's May Market. And with the words "helping members grow" stitched into his shirt sleeve, he talked about the importance of staying ahead of society's online movement and balancing all the "ingredients" of a successful hardware store.

Risch joins hhgregg from RadioShack, where he served as executive VP store operations. Prior to this, he held a variety of operational leadership positions with Target Corp., including executive VP stores. Risch will assume the COO position on May 5, 2014.
