Haier America announced that Shariff Kan, president and CEO has stepped down and will be replaced by Adrian Micu, effective Feb. 10.

Micu comes to Haier with more than 25 years of executive-level engineering, technology and product development experience within the appliance industry. Most recently, he held the position of VP engineering with Whirlpool Corporation.

Haier America is becoming a wholly owned subsidiary of the multinational Haier Group in a move that aims to strengthen the company's focus on the Americas.

Previously, Haier America was owned in part by joint-venture shareholders.

"This is an important step forward for Haier," said Shariff Kan, president and CEO of Haier America. "The acquisition is being made to further align the company's global resources toward growth and success for the Haier brand in North and South America."

Together with Lowe's, appliance supplier Haier America is in the process of promoting its space-saving dorm products as students across the nation get ready to ship off to college.

Lowe's is selling the products as well as offering decor tips and hundreds of storage solutions for optimizing small spaces.

Joining the Earth Hour campaign, Haier is asking its employees to shut off the lights at home for one hour on March 31st at 8:30 p.m. local time in support of the global sustainability awareness campaign.

Haier chose Earth Hour as the launching point for the Smarter Life, Better Planet campaign which tracks and supports the inspiring visionaries, organizations and ideas paving the way for the world of tomorrow.

New York City-based Haier America has announced the realignment of the company by creating a structure to be "fully integrated and aligned" under three main Product Business Divisions, the company announced. The Product Business Divisions will include Air Conditioning Group (ACG), White Goods Group (WGG), and Digital Products Group (DPG).
